Based in Bangalore, the Market Data AVP - Operations Manager is responsible for delivering Market Data services for their given business unit.

Market Data Business focus on providing an efficient, timely, and cost effective solution to meet market data requirements for the supported business unit. The team is customer facing, and will manage and deliver customer requirements by working closely with their business unit, and with the respective Market Data Product Managers, to understand the requirements, and advise on the best options available. In collaboration with the relevant MD Business Solutions Managers, the team will also provide transparent reporting to the business on market data spend, budget, and usage. The team are business aligned, working closely with relevant Market Data Product Owners/Managers, MD Admin and MD Operations to ensure that the supported business receives full transparency on their market data related costs in near real-time.

The performance of the team will be measured by providing timely, accurate, and optimal services to the business, in line with an agreed upon Service Level Agreement.

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the necessary skills to become conversant in the following areas of Market Data management:

  • Business requirements

  • Vendor compliance

  • Vendor licensing and commercial policy

  • Product optimisation

  • Transparency across data sources

  • Cost Reporting & Analysis

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the services provided by Market Data suppliers and how each business unit is making use of these services currently. They will also demonstrate a sound understanding of licensing and commercial policies across these suppliers which include:

  • Material/Critical data carriers (e.g. Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg)

  • Exchanges

  • Brokers

  • Ratings Agencies

  • Index Providers

  • Security Identifier Providers

Deliverables: Attend monthly meetings with stakeholders and MD Business Managers to deliver updates on BAU activities where appropriate and present aforementioned reporting on costs and usage

Leadership & Team Management

  • Mange a team of Business Analysts who are responsible for supporting Business with their day to day Market Data Requirement

  • Provide leadership and steer for key MDM/Process enhancement projects – Data Quality Clean Up / workflow enhancements etc…

  • Manage staff performance

Business Management - Internal

  • Effective BAU stakeholder management. Responsible for engagement with appropriate internal contacts to collate requirements, obtain cost approval and communicate Market Data enterprise licensing and commercial guidelines where appropriate. Internal contacts include but are not limited to:

    • Business Managers

    • Market Data Vendor Management

    • Market Data Business Liaison

    • Procurement

    • IT Developers

    • Application Owners

    • Project Managers

    • Data Consumers

Relationship Management – External

  • Liaise with external data suppliers in conjunction with vendor management to understand data offerings.

  • Communication with suppliers to understand licensing / data usage policies.

Documentation and Communication

  • A key tool for effective stakeholder management is an accurate and up to date inventory of costs and the ability to effectively communicate and explain its contents. It is the collective responsibility of the market data business manager, market data analyst and market data operations team to ensure full cost transparency for each business unit

  • Process Efficiencies

  • Business Feedback

Monthly meetings to:

    • Discuss cost v budget and thematically describe trends/impacts of any projects or cost overlap

    • Update on any major upcoming contract renewals

  • Effective communication with stakeholders/end users of Market Data services to ensure adequate understanding of do’s and don’ts around data/product use

  • End to end cost transparency/integrity of inventory for all business units

Role Context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)

  • Part of the CDO Market Data Team, providing business support and contract management for the respective business unit

  • Facilitate standard processes and procedures to be followed globally

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)

  • Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

  • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy

  • Follows Group policies and processes relating to procurement and vendor risk management as set out in the Operations FIM


What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Good understanding of the commercial terms and conditions, restrictions and licensing policies of the major market data vendors

  • Strong team player with ability to work collaboratively as part of a global virtual team

  • Highly self-motivated with excellent people skills

  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to see and understand the big picture

  • Detail orientated – ability to review a contract in the context of the actual requirements

  • Sound knowledge of general legal terms/clauses

  • Broad understanding of data licensing requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written for discussions and communication at all levels

  • Excellent administration skills

  • Knowledge and experience of Market data tools such as MDM, RPM and Crystal reporting

  • Excel proficiency
