Role Summary:
The AVP Coding will lead coding operations across the RCM function, with primary responsibility for quality, compliance, productivity, and team performance.
The role requires deep expertise in radiology and surgery coding, strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and payer rules, along with the ability to drive operational excellence across large coding teams.
Coding supports accurate claim submission, denial reduction, compliance, and revenue optimization in the healthcare revenue cycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage end-to-end coding operations for radiology, surgery, and related specialty services.
- Ensure accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes, and applicable modifiers based on clinical documentation.
- Review coding quality, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to improve accuracy and compliance.
- Drive productivity, quality, turnaround time, and SLA adherence across the coding team.
- Monitor denial patterns related to coding and work with billing, QA, and client teams to reduce rejections and underpayments.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, payer, and client-specific coding guidelines.
- Handle escalation of complex coding queries, documentation gaps, and physician/provider queries.

- Develop, coach, and mentor coding managers, supervisors, auditors, and coding associates.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and internal/external quality assessments.
- Partner with operations, client leadership, and transition teams for new implementations and process improvements.
- Prepare MIS reports, dashboards, and performance reviews for leadership.
- Support training on coding updates, SOPs, and specialty-specific coding guidelines.
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in medical coding and/or RCM, with significant leadership exposure.
- Strong background in radiology coding and surgery/procedural coding.
- Experience managing large teams in a healthcare BPO, provider, or outsourcing setup.
- Working knowledge of coding compliance, audits, denials, and quality assurance.
- Experience handling US healthcare revenue cycle workflows is preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong command of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and coding guidelines.
- Expertise in radiology and surgical documentation interpretation.
- Strong people management, stakeholder management, and escalation handling skills.
- Ability to analyze coding productivity and quality metrics.
- Good understanding of denial management, appeal support, and payer behavior.
- Strong communication, training, and process improvement skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AAPC/AHIMA certification such as CPC, CPC-H, COC, CCS, or specialty certifications.
- Experience in quality audits, compliance programs, and coding education.
- Six Sigma or process improvement exposure is a plus.
- Experience in a multinational or India-based RCM delivery environment.
