Deloitte India Hiring Process 2026: Stage-by-Stage Guide

Image Description

There is a rule in Deloitte's off-campus hiring that almost nobody mentions, and it quietly disqualifies a lot of people: if you have applied to any Deloitte US-India role in the previous six months, you are not eligible to apply again.

So the scattergun approach that works elsewhere, applying to every Deloitte posting you find, actively works against you here. One badly chosen application in March can lock you out of the role you actually wanted in July.

That is the kind of thing this guide covers. Not the questions you will be asked, which we have handled separately, but the machinery: which route to apply through, what each stage actually tests, what the eligibility bar really is by stream, and where candidates lose themselves before an interviewer ever sees them.

Step Zero: Work Out Which Deloitte You Are Applying To

Deloitte in India is not one hiring pipeline. Getting this wrong is the most common early mistake, because the entities have separate portals, separate roles and separate recruiting teams.

Deloitte India is the client-facing member firm serving Indian clients across audit and assurance, tax, risk advisory, financial advisory and consulting. It recruits heavily from commerce, CA and management backgrounds. Reported fresher packages in audit and tax sit in roughly the Rs. 4 to 6 lakh range.

Deloitte US-India (USI) is part of the Deloitte US organisation, operating from delivery centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Chennai, serving clients of the US member firm. This is where most engineering fresher volume sits, in roles such as Business Technology Analyst and Risk and Financial Advisory Analyst. Reported technology fresher packages sit in roughly the Rs. 7 to 9 lakh range.

Deloitte Engineering Center (DEC), based in Bengaluru, hires separately for engineering roles including full-stack and application development, typically posting individually rather than through mass drives.

Salary figures throughout this guide are third-party reported rather than published by Deloitte, and they move each cycle. Treat them as indicative and confirm against your own offer.

The Three Ways In

1. Campus placement

Applications go through your college placement cell. If your institution is on Deloitte's target list, this is the easiest route, because the screening is partly done by your college.

2. National Level Assessment (NLA)

This is Deloitte's off-campus mass-hiring route for freshers, and it is the one most people should know about and do not.

NLA opens to a specific graduating batch and runs on its own registration portal with a hard application deadline. The 2026 cycle closed applications on 19 January 2026, which tells you something important: these windows are short, announced with little notice, and do not reopen. If you are in a pre-final year, set up alerts now rather than searching when you graduate.

NLA recruits into Analyst Trainee and Associate Analyst roles across domains, with reported packages in the Rs. 3.25 to 4 lakh range. Selected candidates are typically registered under the Apprenticeship Act with a one-year probation period.

Its breadth is the notable part. NLA has accepted B.E, B.Tech, M.E, M.Tech, MCA, B.Sc, BCA, BBA, BBM, BMS, BFS and B.Com candidates, which makes it one of the few Big Four routes genuinely open to commerce and general science graduates alongside engineers.

3. Direct application through the careers portal

Individual role postings appear continuously on the Deloitte USI careers portal and the Deloitte India site. These are per-requisition rather than batch hiring, which means they close when filled rather than on a fixed date.

This is where the six-month rule bites. Because postings are continuous and tempting, candidates apply to several. Applying to a Deloitte US-India role starts a six-month clock during which you cannot apply to another. So choose the posting that genuinely matches your profile rather than the first one you see.

Criteria vary by requisition, so the posting you are applying to overrides anything in this table.

Stage 1: The Application

More candidates are eliminated here than at any interview, and the reasons are usually mechanical rather than merit-based.

Create your profile carefully. You will enter academic transcript details and a location preference. Make sure every percentage and CGPA matches your marksheet exactly. Mismatches surface later at document verification and are treated seriously.

Submit your resume twice, in both formats. Deloitte USI's own guidance recommends pasting your resume into the copy-paste field and attaching the file. The pasted text guarantees clean parsing even if the attachment format causes problems, and it costs you thirty seconds.

Make the resume ATS-readable. Single column, no tables, no images, conventional section headings. If your resume parses badly, the screening team sees a mangled profile rather than your actual record.

Set a location preference you will actually accept. Allocation follows business need, and being unwilling to move to the location you selected creates a problem at offer stage.

Stage 2: Profile Screening

Deloitte's recruiting team reviews applications against academic criteria and role fit. There is no separate screening interview at this point for most tracks, so nothing you say can rescue a profile that does not read well on paper.

Two things drive the outcome: whether you clear the academic bar, and whether your resume evidences the specific skills in the posting. A data analytics posting listing Alteryx, Tableau and SQL will shortlist resumes carrying those exact words.

Shortlisted candidates are invited to the online assessment.

Stage 3: The Online Assessment

The assessment differs by track, which is why generic preparation advice fails here.

Engineering and technology tracks

A single test of around 90 minutes covering four sections: quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and coding.

The coding section lets you compile and run your code, and shows how many hidden test cases pass. Your last submitted version is what counts, so submit a working partial solution before attempting to optimise it. Candidates lose marks every cycle by leaving an improved but unsubmitted version in the editor.

Data and analytics tracks

Analytical aptitude, data interpretation, and technical questions on analytics tools and Excel. For these roles the technical portion carries real weight rather than being a formality.

Business support and operations tracks

Reasoning, Microsoft Office proficiency, and communication. Excel competence is tested more seriously here than candidates expect.

Client-facing and BPO tracks

Some roles add the Versant test, an automated spoken-English assessment from Pearson. It scores fluency, clarity and sentence construction rather than accent. Speak at a natural pace, finish your sentences, and do not try to sound like someone else.

Stage 4: The Interview

This is where Deloitte has changed most, and where outdated guides will mislead you.

For engineering campus hiring, the technical and HR rounds are now combined into a single interview of roughly 15 to 25 minutes. One interviewer, both areas, one conversation.

The group discussion and JAM rounds have been dropped from the campus process. If a prep site is still telling you to practise JAM, it has not been updated.

Off-campus and specialist tracks may still split this into two rounds. A data analytics posting, for instance, typically runs a technical interview covering hands-on tool proficiency followed by a separate HR discussion.

The short format has a consequence worth planning for: with twenty minutes total, most of the time goes to your resume and your final-year project. There is no warm-up round and no opportunity to recover from a weak opening.

Stage 5: Offer and Onboarding

Offers follow within a few weeks for campus and NLA cycles, and can be faster for individual requisitions.

Two things to read carefully in the offer:

Apprenticeship and probation. NLA-route hires are typically registered under the Apprenticeship Act and placed on probation for one year. Understand what that means for your role and terms before you sign.

Fixed versus variable split. Ask for the breakdown in rupees rather than comparing headline CTC figures. A package with a large variable component is worth less in guaranteed money than one of identical CTC that is fully fixed.

Documents you will need at verification:

  • Class X and XII marksheets and certificates
  • All semester marksheets and provisional or degree certificate
  • Government photo identification and PAN
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Internship or experience certificates, if any
  • Certification credentials you have claimed on your resume

Keep clean scans of all of these in one folder before you start applying. Chasing a Class X certificate during offer week is avoidable stress.

The NLA window is short. Register on the portal and set alerts rather than checking manually, because these announcements circulate for a few weeks and then the link expires.

Six Mistakes That Cost People a Deloitte Offer

  • Burning the six-month clock on a role you did not want. Choose one well-matched USI application rather than three loose ones.

  • Not knowing which entity you applied to. Deloitte India, USI and DEC are separate, with different roles and different pay bands.

  • Mismatched academic details. What you type into the portal must match your marksheets exactly.

  • A resume that parses badly. With no screening interview before the assessment, your parsed profile is the entire first impression.

  • Not submitting the coding solution before optimising it. The last submitted version is what gets scored.

  • Preparing for rounds that no longer exist. GD and JAM are gone from the campus process.

Final Thoughts

Deloitte's process is not especially hard. It is specific, and specificity is what catches people out.

So do three things before you apply. Check which entity the posting belongs to. Check that your resume carries the exact skill words in that posting and parses cleanly. And if it is a Deloitte US-India role, be sure it is the one you want, because it is the only one you get for six months.

Then get your documents scanned into one folder, set an alert for the NLA window, and prepare the two things a twenty-minute interview will definitely cover: who you are, and what you built.

FAQs

The National Level Assessment is Deloitte's off-campus mass-hiring route for freshers, recruiting into Analyst Trainee and Associate Analyst roles. It has accepted a wide range of streams including B.E, B.Tech, M.E, M.Tech, MCA, B.Sc, BCA, BBA, BBM, BMS, BFS and B.Com. Registration runs on a dedicated portal with a hard deadline, and the window is short.

Not for Deloitte US-India. Candidates who have applied to a Deloitte US-India role within the previous six months are typically not eligible to apply again in that period, so a single well-matched application is better than several speculative ones.

For engineering campus hiring: profile screening, a 90-minute online assessment including coding, and a single combined technical and HR interview of 15 to 25 minutes. Off-campus and specialist tracks may add a Versant communication test or split the technical and HR rounds separately.

No. Both have been dropped from the Deloitte campus recruitment process as of 2026, although many prep sites have not updated their guides.

Typically 60% or above in Class X, Class XII and graduation, with no active backlogs and a full-time regular course. Specific drives may vary, particularly on batch year and stream, so the actual posting takes precedence.

Reported figures put NLA-route Analyst Trainee and Associate Analyst roles at roughly Rs. 3.25 to 4 lakh, Deloitte India audit and tax roles at roughly Rs. 4 to 6 lakh, and Deloitte USI technology roles at roughly Rs. 7 to 9 lakh. These are third-party reported and shift each cycle.

Deloitte India serves Indian clients across audit, tax and advisory. Deloitte US-India is part of the Deloitte US organisation, based in India and serving US member firm clients, and takes most engineering fresher hiring. The Deloitte Engineering Center in Bengaluru hires separately for engineering roles. They have distinct portals and recruiting teams.

Yes, extensively. The NLA route accepts commerce, science and management graduates, and Deloitte India recruits heavily from commerce and CA backgrounds for audit, tax and advisory roles.
