Job Description
JD Sr. Business Development Manager (MFD Relationship Manager Partnerships & Alliances)
Experience: 10+ Years
Qualification: MBA/CA
Location: Bangalore
About the Company:
4thoughts is a leading Multi Family Office and Global Wealth Management firm providing customized wealth advisory, investment management, financial planning, and alternate investment solutions to HNIs, UHNIs, family offices, and corporate clients. The organization focuses on delivering long-term wealth creation strategies through personalized financial solutions and global investment opportunities.
Role Overview:
This role is focused on expanding 4thoughts' distribution footprint by building deep, trust-based relationships with Mutual Fund Distributors (MFDs) across the region. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and onboarding MFDs, analyzing their AUM books and client relationships, and structuring mutually beneficial tie-up arrangements ranging from referral partnerships to full/partial acquisition of MFD books/practices. The role also involves proactively growing the MFD network and exploring business synergies between MFD partners and 4thoughts' platform (cross-sell, referrals, co-branded offerings), while streamlining onboarding and servicing so that partner AUM transitions smoothly into the 4thoughts platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and nurture strong relationships with MFDs (Mutual Fund Distributors) across the region, identifying, engaging, and onboarding them for strategic tie-ups including partnership arrangements and full/partial acquisition of MFD books/practices.
- Evaluate prospective MFD partners on key parameters such as AUM size, client mix, product penetration, revenue quality, and growth trajectory before structuring a tie-up.
- Analyze MFD client relationships and books to assess fit, retention risk, and cross-sell/up-sell potential into PMS, AIF, and other 4thoughts offerings, and proactively explore business synergies (co-branded solutions, referral arrangements, shared servicing) between MFD partners and the 4thoughts platform.
- Design and negotiate partnership/tie-up commercials, ensuring alignment with company policy on revenue-sharing, empanelment terms, and compliance requirements.
- Own end-to-end deal structuring and streamlining from initial discussions and due diligence through documentation, empanelment, and go-live.
- Coordinate with Compliance, Operations, and Product teams to ensure smooth transition of MFD books and adherence to SEBI/AMFI regulatory requirements.
- Leverage existing regional relationships and market connects to directly source HNI/UHNI clients and MFD partners, converting personal network into business pipeline.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of MFD partnership opportunities, tracking conversion at each stage of the tie-up lifecycle.
- Continuously build and expand the MFD network/ecosystem for 4thoughts, proactively identifying new distributors and geographies for partnership growth.
- Represent 4thoughts at regional industry forums, MFD meets, and networking events to build the partner ecosystem and enhance brand visibility.
- Maintain long-term relationships with onboarded MFD partners to ensure retention, satisfaction, and incremental AUM growth over time.
- Prepare periodic MIS on partnership pipeline, deal status, AUM added through tie-ups, and market intelligence for management review.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in Business Development, Channel/Partner Management, or Alliances, preferably within an Asset Management Company (AMC); candidates from Wealth Management, Broking, or other Financial Services backgrounds will also be considered.
- Demonstrated experience working with or managing MFD relationships, channel partners, or distributor networks not just direct client acquisition.
- Prior exposure to a regional-level role (e.g., regional channel head, regional partnerships manager, cluster BD lead) with accountability for a partner network across a geography.
- Strong existing network of MFDs and distributors, with the credibility to open conversations and close tie-ups independently.
- Ability to independently assess an MFD's AUM book, client quality, and business potential, and translate that into a structured partnership proposal.
- Sound understanding of mutual fund, PMS, and AIF distribution economics, empanelment processes, and relevant SEBI/AMFI regulatory framework.
- Strong negotiation, deal-structuring, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to close commercially sound tie-ups.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, comfortable engaging with distributor principals as well as internal leadership.
Preferred Profile:
- Candidates with a background in an Asset Management Company (AMC) managing MFD/distributor relationships or channel sales strongly preferred; also open to candidates from Wealth Management firms, Broking Houses.
- Prior experience specifically in MFD onboarding, channel partner acquisition, or distributor alliance roles will be a strong advantage.
- Education Qualification: MBA/CA.
- Strong market connectivity with MFDs and distributors in Bangalore and surrounding regions, ideally built through a prior regional role.
Why Join 4thoughts?:
- Opportunity to build and own a strategic MFD partnership channel from the ground up.
- Fast-growing and entrepreneurial environment with strong career growth opportunities.
- Exposure to diverse investment products (PMS, AIF, Mutual Funds, Structured Products, Global Investments) and strategic partnership deal-making.
- Collaborative work culture with leadership visibility and performance-driven rewards.
