Associate Director Indirect Taxation

The purpose should describe how the job contributes to achieving overall business objectives and why the position exists/need to be created.

• Responsible and accountable for indirect tax compliance, litigation and planning for AIL, AHPL and SJM legal entities in India. Indirect taxes include multiple tax laws à Custom duties, Excise duty, Service tax, local cesses, VAT, Sales tax, GST. Advisory role for indirect taxes in Bangladesh, Nepal and Srilanka.


• The job ensures timely & accurate compliance with Federal and State indirect tax laws without which business cannot sell its products in India.


• The job ensures optimizing the effective tax rate and maximizing input tax credits thereby contributing positively to Income Statement and Cashflow. One-stop advisory for business for all transactions, new business models, new customers and M&A.

Education:

Chartered Accountant with 15 years of post qualification experience in handling indirect taxes for large companies having turnover > $ 1billion. A Law degree will be additional advantage.
Major Accountabilities
% of Time

Devise tax strategy to prevent tax leakages, secure tax benefits and ensure maximization of input tax credits thereby contributing positively to Income Statement and Cashflow 20%

Litigation management across all tax regulations at State and Central level. Minimise additional tax liabilities, interests and penalties 20%

Ensure timely and accurate compliance across all indirect tax laws at State and Central level. Implementation of key tax policies and procedures. Provide training and guidance on major business operations including M&A. 15%

Representation to Govt. eg : GST Council, CBDT. Representation to industry bodies on key issues of Pharma industry. Participate in discussions with all key stakeholders of Govt, industry bodies and peers to bring about change and clarifications for industry. 15%

Develop and train people for taking up additional roles & responsibilities. 15%

Automation of key processes and compliances thru’ AI and RPA 15%
