Alt Carbon is a deeptech science and data company, building agri-infrastructure for climate action. We aim to make South Asia a hub for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) through technology pathways like Enhanced Rock Weathering and Biochar. We work with farmers and scientists across the Global South to turn underutilized land into carbon sinks.

Our flagship initiative, the Darjeeling Revival Project (DRP), is a first-of-its-kind effort to unite climate action with cultural and ecological restoration - by reviving degraded soils, restoring livelihoods, and rebuilding ecosystems. This year, we also launched the Bengal Renaissance Project (BRP), a large-scale biochar program that is building a network of biomass banks, pyrolysis, and gasification plants across Eastern India, with a mission to weave hope back into the lands of India.

Experience: Chartered Accountant (CA) with 6+ years of experience in financial leadership roles within startups, specializing in controllership, capital planning, and fundraising (equity, debt, and SPVs), along with end-to-end ownership of budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder communication.

Role Overview:

As the VP of Finance, you will be a key member of the leadership team, owning the full-spectrum financial operations and ensuring the companys financial health. Beyond traditional controllership, you will architect and execute budgeting, fundraising (equity, SPV working capital, and debt-based capital), capital allocation, and P&L responsibility across the company and special purpose vehicles (SPVs).

You will play a central role in investment strategy, capital planning, and financial communication with management, investors, and external stakeholders.

What Youll Do:

• Strategic Financial Leadership: Oversee all financial operations, planning, and reporting, and serve as an advisor to the CEO and board.
• Budget Planning & Forecasting: Lead the development and management of company-wide, departmental, and SPV-specific budgets; own scenario analysis, resource planning, and optimization for growth.
  
• Fundraising & Capital Structuring: Support fundraising efforts for equity, venture debt, grants, SPV working capital, and other financing instruments. Structure and execute equity and debt transactions for both parent and SPV entities, including investor/lender engagement, deal negotiation, and closure.
• SPV Working Capital: Manage and optimize working capital structures for Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), including overseeing multiple debt and equity instruments, assessing optimal capital stacks, refinancing negotiations, and compliance.
• P&L Ownership: Track, report, and drive improvement of P&L at both company and SPV levels. Develop dashboards for key performance indicators (KPI), burn rate, revenue growth, runway, and efficiency metrics.
• Investor, Lender, and Stakeholder Management: Develop financial communications, reporting, and due diligence materials for investors, lenders, and board members; manage relationships and information flows.
• Financial Controls & Compliance: Oversee statutory compliance (GST, Income Tax, Company Law, etc.), audits, regulatory filings, compliance for multiple legal entities, and implementation of robust internal controls and governance processes.
• Supply Chain Financial Oversight: Collaborate with supply chain, operations, and procurement teams to optimize inventory, vendor payments, working capital, and cost controls. Ensure financial efficiency and risk management across procurement, logistics, and vendor negotiations, aligning supply chain decisions with strategic budget and capital allocation priorities.
• Process Optimization: Continuously improve financial systems, ERP, reporting accuracy, and automate workflows for accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management.
• Management Reporting & Analysis: Deliver regular financial statements and customized analysis to the leadership team, highlighting trends and actionable insights for business decisions.
• Payroll & Employee Benefits: Own the payroll process, employee reimbursements, ensuring timely and compliant execution of all employee financial transactions. Designing salary structures, managing employee benefit schemes, overseeing statutory deductions (e.g., PF, NPS), helping structure tax-efficient compensation.
• Financial Advisory for Employees: Provide financial guidance and advisory support for employees on matters such as taxation, salary structuring, retirement benefits, and general financial wellness.

  Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks, ensuring adequate coverage, counterparty monitoring, and risk reporting.

What Were Looking For:

• Chartered Accountant (CA) certification is mandatory.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in a finance controller, Financial Manager, or similar role in a start up.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
• Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally).
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
