About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join a new, high-impact team focused on building AI-integrated features within our Jira-based testing product suite. These roles involve significant autonomy, technical ownership, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.

The engineers will work closely with the Data & AI practice leads and report directly to the Product Lead to drive initiatives across three primary areas: MCP server integration, Rovo AI feature development, and Teamwork Graph synchronization.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product and AI teams to define technical approaches and requirements.
• Own feature development from concept through deployment in a dynamic, discovery-heavy environment.
• Develop and maintain high-quality backend code, APIs, and integration logic.
• Participate in discovery, backlog planning, and defining MVPs with limited requirements.
• Contribute to documentation and share knowledge with stakeholders.

Must Have

• 8+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and backend API design.
• Solid understanding of AWS services (e.g., queues, events, microservices).
• Experience working with REST APIs, microservices architecture, and event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with Jira or Atlassian app ecosystem (bonus).
• Basic to intermediate understanding of AI concepts, including prompt engineering and API interaction with LLMs.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and contributing to discovery and roadmap shaping.

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating with Atlassian Rovo or Teamwork Graph.
• Background in AI product development or familiarity with GenAI APIs.
• Knowledge of open-source AI frameworks and prompt optimization.
• Experience contributing to shared infrastructure projects (e.g., MCP servers).
• Team Structure & Dynamics
• You will be part of a newly formed team reporting directly to the Product Lead.
• Collaboration with PMs and AI leads will be frequent, but youll have significant independence.
• Other product teams operate in India, but this team will primarily collaborate with Europe and U.S.-based stakeholders.
• Expect limited guidance on day-to-day tasks this is a high-trust, self-directed environment.
