The Institutional Banking Technology group within IB&M provides solutions to support a range of products including Capital Structuring and Trade Finance (Documentary Collection / Letter of Credit / Lending Facility / Working Capital Facility / Inventory & Receivables / Risk Participation / Bank Guarantee).
As CBA looks to grow its capability to support its customer’s international Trade Finance and Lending requirements there is an exciting opportunity for a technology leader to join the Institutional Banking technology team.
Your impact & contribution
The role is the lead for the Institutional Banking Technology team within our Indian Office, and is responsible for prioritizing, coordinating and leading the execution of technical platform delivery and service management.
You will be expected to lead change in these capabilities, delivering significant step change in posture and operational maturity, manage technology assets, and lead people in a way consistent with our values and risk appetite.
Additionally your impact will be felt through technology leadership across multiple businesses and Technology as we transform to become a truly service focused organisation. You will drive innovations and outstanding delivery execution, thought leadership as well as take a Group view of integration and consistency across other lines of business.
Your reporting lines
- Direct line reporting into the Executive Manager – IB&M Technology (India)
- Indirect report into General Manager, Institutional Banking Technology
You will be responsible for a significant direct and indirect team and ensure they have a clear understanding of our values and service promise to customers.

Your responsibilities
- Work side by side with Technology leaders, Product Owners and all extended CBA team members to:
- Provide leadership to drive significant business or customer value, partnering with a broad range of senior stakeholders
- Grooms the backlog of Project delivery to ensure that delivery teams are effectively utilized
- Works closely with platform GMs, Service Management & Performance to provide visibility on delivery and RUN activities
- Deliver on technology priorities including Cloud enablement, DEVOPS, API, CI/CD, Test Automation and functional priorities including Trade Innovation and Capital structuring
- Partner with Trade Finance / Lending Ops to evaluate and deliver on workflow automation and optimization opportunities
- Understand trade flow and markets very well and help with broader strategy
- Provide second level support, adhering to Safe, Sound and Secure principles with a focus on stability and resiliency including Environment, Release and Transition Activities.
- Build and lead the team to:
- Leads, coaches and develops a high performing, engaged team, develops the next generation of tech leaders. Day to day career manager for local team.
- Help grow the team to reach our targets and work with counterparts in IB&M Sydney
- Organise the local team to follow the engineer-led model that will be adopted in Sydney
- Drive a “one team” culture and manage competing priorities and trade-offs
- Role models an Enterprise Mind-set to collaborate and leverage relationships across IB&M and the group
- Develop/manage measurement and evaluation solutions that provide reporting and analysis for measuring success
- Help set up a follow the sun model
- Establish autonomous delivery squads and local scrum teams accountable for end-to-end delivery
- Design and implement a framework for continuous improvement, including performance and measurement
- Strive to build and inculcate CBA culture and values among the new teams and across organization
- Help in building an organization aligned to CBA purpose and strategy by actively participating in organizational initiatives
- Risk Mind-set:
- Consolidation of performance reporting from Technology to provide transparency to the business and relevant stakeholders
- Representation of IT risks ensuring all are mitigated, managed or accepted
- Role models exceptional risk behaviours and embeds a superior risk culture
- Contributes to reduction of technical debt
- Financial Management:
- Financial management of operational budgets and project investment spend
Your skills & Your Experience
- A deep industry and technical knowledge especially in Institutional Lending, Capital Markets, Trade Finance, Cloud, Service Management and other areas
- Experience in stakeholder management – internal (Talent Acquisition, L&D, Finance, Admin, HR, etc.) and external (COTS vendors, ASPs) to facilitate desired business outcomes
- Experience in building new team from start in a new location.
- Good understanding of Global Team management and matrix operating model
- Leadership skills, managing a large team along with technical expertise to provide direction when needed to ensure that goals are achieved
- Team management skills, with exposure to managing multiple teams and different areas of the Bank
- Ability to lead and inspire people to deliver exceptional outcomes and to drive a performance culture
- History of managing major technical assets, and fostering innovation while safeguarding resilience
- Experience in agile methods at scale, experiment driven innovation, and a measurement culture
- Ability to interpret complex subjects and architectures, and recommend solution options
- Risk mindset – All CBA employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks

Your Qualifications
- Experience of managing and building out large teams to deliver high performance outcomes
- Outstanding delivery and running of large and complex technology programs
- Good understanding and knowledge of entire product lifecycle
