About Infrastructure Engineering
Providing engineering leadership for infrastructure and services that enables the delivery and operations of all Barclays applications, networks, data centers, telecommunications, workplace and other IT infrastructure
Overall purpose of role
The Expert Engineer is responsible for assisting in defining service strategy and reference Engineering and developing service or pattern design, leading to robust, flexible and quality Infrastructure services and solutions.
Expert Engineers help the business shape its technology strategy, governance and policy; they advise, influence and are sought out by senior management; they have the highest level of autonomy, influence and business skills, and may engage on some of our most complex technology programmes. They possess comprehensive knowledge in breadth and depth within their technical domain; they are exemplars of knowledge sharing and developing others.
Key Accountabilities
·Responsible for assisting delivery teams deploy chosen technologies across the Barclays Azure public cloud environments globally globally
·Act as a lead operations engineer in the design and recovery of Barclays infrastructure in the situation of a Cyber-attack.
·Assists Service and Application owners in fault finding and performance tuning portfolio specific services hosted in public cloud
·Responsible for defining and qualifying demand for new Infrastructure services or patterns
·Responsible for ensuring new service or pattern design adheres to Barclays’s specified design blueprints, roadmaps and standards
·Develops and maintains service reference Engineering, standards and policies
·Build and lead a dedicated Azure operations team
·Consults delivery portfolio operations as required
·Represents Infrastructure Engineering on relevant Barclays Group forums and Group Tech projects
·Ensures Operational Readiness and Design & Control Assurance are adhered to at each agreed Solution Engineering Life Cycle stage gate
·Assists Service Owner or Infrastructure Service Managers in assuring vendor/supplier provided pattern solution design or build
·Assists Service Owner and Service Integration on Total Cost of Ownership for Infrastructure Services
·Provide operational support for infrastructure verticals within their chosen domain of expertise

Management and Leadership-·Facilitates effective communications with all key stakeholders including:
§Solution Integration Leads, Service Owners, CSO, Audit, Regulatory and Control teams
§Customers, Industry Partners, Board/Exec

Expert Engineers operate at an enterprise-wide level providing advice to internal and external peers and senior management. Expert Engineers will have been assessed to meet all of the required Barclays Engineering criteria listed below:

Defines and gains agreement on, the principles for establishing effective relationships between stakeholders, including responsibility for the relationship between enterprise architecture functions and end users.

Business and Commercial Acumen:Applies knowledge of industry, market and business trends to prioritise activities. Applies knowledge of industry / sector priorities, dynamics and operational structures to make business decisions that may involve an element of risk. Correctly analyses the business issues and identifies appropriate action. Acquires additional information to resolve specific business issues and inform decisions

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
·Strong system administration and network skills to recover infrastructure and systems from a serious Cyber security incident
·Active Directory/Azure Active Directory- knowledge of design, troubleshooting and restoration.
·Ability to develop and manage cloud infrastructure from the Azure Portal, using PowerShell or the CLI.
·Experience in designing and implementing MS Azure based solutions including understanding of automation tooling and the use thereof.
·Seven+ years experience in IT/Engineering/Architecture including at least two years experience in a supervisory role
·Three years’ recent experience in large-scale public cloud infrastructure deployment projects
·Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills required
Skills that will help you in your role:
·Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline, or equivalent experience, Azure qualifications preferred.
·Post graduate qualifications
·Experience with configuration technology e.g. Packer/Terraform
·Strong technical background in multiple Infrastructure domains
·Experience working within large scale financial companies
