In the role of Supply Chain and Logistics at Caterpillar, your primary aim is to maximize the performance of external suppliers by gaining a comprehensive understanding of our supply network. This involves various responsibilities such as acting as the primary contact for suppliers to ensure timely deliveries, managing inventory levels to prevent excess material, reviewing and processing schedule releases, and collaborating with purchasing analysts and buyers on challenging parts.
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess a degree or equivalent experience. Additionally, having the following skill descriptors is crucial:
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the critical importance of accuracy and demonstrating the ability to execute tasks with precision and reliability. This includes evaluating and contributing to best practices, managing large volumes of detailed information accurately, and effectively balancing speed and accuracy.
Collaborating: Proficiency in collaborative techniques and the ability to work constructively with diverse individuals and groups to achieve common goals. This involves fostering collaborative processes, establishing shared goals, ensuring equal access to information, and promoting collaboration across various levels and functions.
Problem Solving: Proficiency in recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational challenges using appropriate problem-solving techniques. This includes identifying specific problems, understanding stakeholder perspectives, analyzing risks and benefits, and employing diagnostic tools to drive solutions.
Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP): Ability to systematically manage inventory distribution for multiple facilities and warehouses by utilizing real-time inventory software, interpreting operational impacts, applying DRP processes, and resolving distribution-related issues.
Logistics Management: Understanding of logistical processes and operations to facilitate the efficient movement of materials and finished products. This involves recognizing the impact of logistics on competitive advantage, identifying inbound and outbound logistics considerations, and documenting logistics management processes.

Manufacturing Application Systems: Knowledge of databases and applications used in a manufacturing environment to support operational efficiency. This includes understanding information flow, major application types, information sources, and the primary uses of manufacturing application systems.
Materials Handling and Management: Proficiency in managing material handling processes within manufacturing plants, including storage, transportation, and handling of various materials. This encompasses identifying key material management issues, discussing material types, and adhering to packaging regulations.
Supplier Management - MFG: Ability to effectively manage relationships with suppliers of raw materials or components, ensuring quality standards, monitoring performance, and maintaining partnerships. This includes establishing supplier partnerships, monitoring performance, developing quality controls, and managing supplier relationships.
