Position: Assistant Director

Location: On-Site (Production) / Remote Collaboration (Pre & Post)

Type: Freelance / Project-Based

About Us:

We are a startup media production company specializing in high-quality TV commercials (TVCs) and creative media content. Our productions focus on efficiency and collaboration, working with a talented remote and on-site team. We are seeking an Assistant Director (AD) to manage and coordinate the creative, production, and post-production processes.

This role will work closely with a Creative Director and Script Writer (remote) during pre-production, oversee the production process on-site, and collaborate with the Creative Director and Video Editor (remote) during post-production.

Role Summary:

The Assistant Director will play a key role in planning, organizing, and managing the production process. They will ensure that the creative vision is executed effectively while maintaining timelines, managing the crew, and keeping productions running smoothly. The AD will serve as the primary on-site point of contact, ensuring seamless communication between the remote team and on-site crew.

ResponsibilitiesPre-Production

Collaboration:

  • Work with the remote Creative Director and Script Writer to finalize scripts, moodboards, and storyboards.
  • Assist in creating the shot list based on the storyboard and ensure it aligns with the production schedule.

Planning:

  • Develop detailed production schedules and communicate timelines to the team.
  • Coordinate with the casting team and suggest adjustments to ensure talent matches the creative vision.
  • Review location options (from provided photos or suggestions) to prepare for logistics.
Production

On-Site Coordination:

  • Manage and oversee the production process on set, ensuring the shoot follows the schedule.
  • Communicate the Creative Director’s remote instructions to the on-site team and ensure the vision is being implemented.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues on set to avoid delays.

Crew Supervision:

  • Guide the crew, including the camera operator, assistants, and gaffers, to ensure smooth collaboration.
  • Ensure all team members understand their roles and responsibilities for each shot.

Logistics Management:

  • Oversee equipment setup and breakdown.
  • Ensure proper handling of gear, props, and other production essentials.
Post-Production

Collaboration:

  • Work with the remote Creative Director and Video Editor

  • Ensure the creative vision is maintained in the final product.

Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor the progress of editing, sound design, and color grading to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Facilitate clear communication between the post-production team and the client for feedback and revisions.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years in a similar role, such as Assistant Director or Production Manager.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage teams and coordinate multiple moving parts during production.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with video production equipment, including RED Komodo X cameras, and on-set workflows.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to plan, schedule, and adapt to dynamic production needs.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Comfortable working with both on-site and remote teams.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure seamless coordination between creative and technical teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with storyboarding and shot planning.
  • Experience working on TVCs or similar advertising projects.
  • Knowledge of post-production workflows.
