Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our NY, Boston, SF, Chicago, Denver or North Carolina (Raleigh/Charlotte) offices. Will consider other locations for highly qualified candidate.

This role is part of the Technology and Healthcare Banking Credit team comprised of senior credit officers within the second line of defense Credit Administration organization covering the Banks Venture-Backed Technology and Life Sciences lending activities. Ensures that key credit issues and risk exposures are thoroughly analyzed and effectively presented, the credit decisions are acceptable, and the structures appropriately mitigate the Banks risk exposure. Implements credit actions that adhere to Credit Policy and appropriate lending standards / guidance as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations and confirms the assigned Risk Ratings are accurate and justified.

Responsibilities

  • Credit Review - Reviews requests for new loan originations. Ensures due diligence and background evaluation is complete before credit approval is granted. Approve loans within delegated authority while providing input and guidance to teams and approvers for loans outside of delegated authority. Ensures the effective administration of the corporate loan policies, programs, objectives, and goals as they pertain to the Bank.
  • Assesses risk ratings of loans at approval, and in an ongoing basis.
  • Assure the integrity of individual credits approved through oversight of the portfolio management process (inclusive of effective documentation) and through ongoing review of credit actions for individual borrowers within assigned portfolios.
  • Business Support - Works with the Banks lending and underwriting teams to provide recommendations and approvals on credit structure and potential risks. Negotiates, where necessary, terms under which credit will be extended, including the repayment term, covenants, and collateral requirements. Monitors and manages loan portfolio quality metrics.
  • Special Asset Management - Works with lenders to identify and manage problem loans. Collaborates with Special Assets or Bank attorneys as needed.
  • Compliance - Ensures the integrity of the credit process, credit approval documentation and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Ensures policy compliance requirements are met.
  • Initiatives - Participates in broader initiatives related to credit policy / standards / practices as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and 10 years of experience in Tech or Life Science Commercial Credit OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience.

Preferred:
  • 5+ years of experience decisioning Technology and/or Life Sciences lending transactions in an LFI.
  • Demonstrated record of exercising delegated credit approval authority within the 2nd Line of Defense strongly preferred.

  • Strong grasp of and experience in Venture Lending and lending into venture-backed innovation business models.
  • Sub-Sector expertise in one or more technology or life science / healthcare sub-sectors as well as a strong understanding of the venture capital funding model.
  • Strong Analytical and Critical Thinking skills including proven ability to understand complex transactions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented and organized, able to efficiently manage multiple transactions/tasks at the same time.
  • Strong team player with solid collaboration skills across the Credit Administration organization and other relevant stakeholders such as the business units. Ability to coach and mentor junior members of business unit teams strongly preferred.

The base pay for this position is generally between $225,000 and $315,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
