Platform Engineer – Database

GAC Group IT is looking for candidates who specialised in MS/Azure SQL Server & opensource database platforms, for the role of Platform Engineer – Database, to be based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The main responsibility of the role is to monitor the performance, integrity, report development and security of the databases. The database environments are on premise and Cloud, utilizing various offerings in the Cloud ecosystems between AZURE and private hosting capabilities. The successful candidate will also be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting.
Primary Job Roles Are

• Administration of the databases (MS/Azure SQL, Cosmos DB , MySQL, etc.).
• Administrative-based report development.
• Participation in continuous database development, data security enhancements, management, regulatory reporting, “Big Data” capture and reporting, deployment, and on-going fine tuning of databases.
• High level of personal accountability for the continuity and improvement of the organisation’s database environments, data, and processes.
• Ensure database availability and support of critical business systems and database related releases (out of hours if required).
• Development and management of DR solutions around the databases.
• 
  Configure and maintain database servers and processes.
• Code-writing for new features, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, queries, scripts, and ETL processes.
• Improve existing code to fix defects, eliminating technical debt, improving performance, and resolving potential deadlocks.
• Monitor systems health and performance.
• Ensure high levels of performance, availability and security.
• Proactive analysis to solve and rectify issues in DB performance.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues and document changes.
• Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement.
• As and when required, ensure availability to support for critical production systems on 24x7 basis.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
• Other work duties as requested.

Job Requirements

• Ability to identify, recommend, drive, and “own” projects and initiatives.
• B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Computer Science.
• 5+ years’ hands on, strong experience in transactional database management, with at least 3 years working on high-performance enterprise applications, using Azure SQL related technologies.
  

Specialist Knowledge

• Ability to install/manage MS/Azure SQL Server.
• PowerBI/SSRS Development Experience.
• Knowledge of NOSQL technology like Azure cosmos DB, mongodb will be advantage.
• Knowledge of MY SQL Database and Sybase will be advantage.
