General Manager - Waste Management/Recycling Solutions

Hays are supporting an environmental services and recycling business to appoint an experienced General Manager to lead and grow its local and regional operations.

This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility for business strategy, commercial performance, operational excellence, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, and P&L management. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing sustainability initiatives and supporting the circular economy agenda.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the company's growth strategy across the local market.
• Drive revenue growth, profitability, market share expansion, and business development activities.
  
• Oversee end-to-end operations, ensuring efficiency, service quality, scalability, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain strong relationships with government entities, regulators, strategic customers, and key stakeholders.
• Assume full P&L ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, financial performance, and cost optimisation.
• Champion ESG, sustainability, HSE, and circular economy initiatives across the business.
• Build and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation.

Required Experience

• 10-15+ years of experience within environmental services, waste management, recycling or closely related sectors.
• Proven success in senior leadership roles with commercial and operational accountability.
• Strong experience managing P&L performance and delivering sustainable business growth.
• Demonstrated capability in stakeholder management, government engagement, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and business development skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, MBA considered an advantage
