Job Description
InCommon is hiring on behalf of a US based health-tech company.
About Us
We provide high-quality, compassionate care to low-income patients with complex needs—care they often dont receive elsewhere. We offer at-home and virtual care, 24/7 support, and long-term relationships built on trust.
Our approach blends primary, behavioral, and social care, supported by strong clinical teams, smart technology, and proven care models. We partner with health plans, providers, and community organizations to improve outcomes that truly matter to patients.
About the Role
As a Software Engineering Manager, youll split your time roughly evenly between hands-on technical work and leading a small, high-performing team. About half your week goes into writing code, owning architecture, and setting the technical bar; the other half goes into mentoring engineers, shaping delivery, and partnering across functions. Youre a senior engineer who has chosen to lead — not someone who has stepped away from the codebase.
What youll do
Technical (50%)
- Write and review production code on critical paths across our backend and data systems
- Own architecture and technical design for core services — make the calls on tradeoffs around scale, reliability, and complexity
- Lead the hardest technical investigations: production incidents, performance bottlenecks, design decisions with long half-lives
- Set the technical bar through code reviews, design docs, and pairing with engineers on complex problems
- Drive how AI capabilities are integrated into clinical and operational workflows — from prototype to production
Leadership (50%)
- Build and mentor a team of 15+ engineers across backend, data, and platform
- Own day-to-day engineering delivery — sprint planning, retrospectives, execution reviews
- Partner closely with Product, Clinical Ops, and other teams to define and ship the right things fast
- Translate complex healthcare workflows into scalable product and tech decisions
- Define and track engineering metrics; balance velocity, quality, and tech debt deliberately
- Hire, grow, and retain engineers — give direct feedback, run thoughtful 1:1s, develop careers
You should have Looking to get Placed? Try our Placement Guarantee Plan
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with 4–5+ years leading teams while remaining hands-on in the codebase
- Deep backend expertise — Go, Scala, or Java strongly preferred; comfort designing distributed, production systems at scale
- Strong system design instincts — youve made hard architectural calls and lived with the consequences
- A track record of shipping in fast-moving environments without sacrificing quality or reliability
- Strong communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems is a plus
- Experience in healthcare is a plus, but not required
Why this role matters
- Youll shape the tech that enables better outcomes for underserved patients
- Youll work across domains — clinical, operations, data — in a team that values impact over noise
- Youll help define engineering culture and ways of working from the ground up
