Role Overview:
The Lead - Urban Planning will be responsible for strategic planning, field assessment, and system design for large urban and peri-urban service networks. This is a hands-on, data-driven role requiring extensive on-ground engagement to design efficient collection, transportation, and processing ecosystems aligned with operational, environmental, and sustainability goals.
This role is strategic and execution-oriented, not administrative.
Key Responsibilities
Field Assessment & Spatial Planning:
- Conduct extensive on-ground surveys across urban and peri-urban areas to assess terrain, accessibility, density, and service gaps
- Map service zones, population clusters, and waste/resource generation patterns
- Identify operational constraints and high-risk / high-impact zones requiring intervention
Route Planning & Optimization:
- Design and optimize primary and secondary collection routes using GIS and analytical tools
- Reduce turnaround time, fuel consumption, and idle hours through data-backed planning
- Identify and eliminate service black spots through schedule, route, or infrastructure redesign
Fleet & Resource Planning:
- Calculate optimal fleet mix and manpower requirements based on generation volumes and service standards
- Develop phased deployment plans for vehicles, equipment, and workforce
- Ensure scalability of planning models for future expansion
Infrastructure & Processing Strategy:
- Assess existing infrastructure capacity versus projected loads
- Identify gaps and propose new processing, transfer, or decentralized facilities
- Plan logistics flows from collection points to processing or disposal facilities
Data-Driven Governance & Monitoring:
- Implement technology-enabled monitoring systems (GPS, RFID, dashboards, MIS)
- Define KPIs for service efficiency, coverage, cost, and turnaround time
- Provide periodic analytical reports and planning insights to senior leadership
Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Coordination:
- Work closely with operations, projects, engineering, finance, and digital teams
- Support transition phases, new area onboarding, and system redesign initiatives
- Act as planning SPOC for strategic reviews and leadership presentations

Educational Background
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field
- MBA / Postgraduate qualification in Operations, Infrastructure, or Planning preferred
