Manager - Solid Waste Management Operations

Description:

Role Objective:
To plan, manage, and oversee end-to-end solid waste management operations, ensuring efficient collection, transportation, processing, compliance, safety, cost control, and service quality across assigned service areas.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Collection & Transportation Operations
- Manage primary and secondary waste collection operations across assigned zones
- Ensure 100% coverage as per service standards and operational plans
- Monitor daily deployment of manpower, vehicles, and equipment
- Minimize spillages, delays, and service gaps through proactive supervision

2. Route Planning & Operational Optimization
- Implement optimized collection routes and schedules
- Improve vehicle turnaround time, fuel efficiency, and productivity
- Identify and eliminate garbage vulnerable points through operational redesign

3. Fleet & Manpower Management
- Manage owned and hired fleet including tippers, compactors, hook loaders, and support vehicles
- Ensure availability, uptime, maintenance coordination, and compliance of vehicles

4. Processing & Disposal Coordination
- Coordinate waste movement to designated processing, treatment, or disposal facilities
- Ensure segregation at source and minimize contamination
- Track processing efficiency and diversion from landfill

5. Compliance, Safety & Environmental Controls
- Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and safety requirements
- Implement safety protocols, PPE usage, and regular toolbox talks
- Coordinate internal and external audits with zero non-compliances

6. Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage contractors for collection, transportation, manpower, and support services
- Monitor SLAs, performance metrics, and billing accuracy
- Drive continuous improvement and cost optimization

7. MIS, Reporting & Digitization
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly MIS and operational dashboards
- Track KPIs such as coverage, productivity, cost per ton, complaints, and safety
- Support digitization initiatives including GPS, RFID, mobile apps, and ERP systems

Educational Qualification
- Degree in Engineering / Environmental Science / Management or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification in Operations or Environmental Management preferred
