Security Specialist

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced 5G Security Specialist to lead the design, implementation, and enforcement of security controls across 5G infrastructure and networks. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in securing 5G network components, managing signaling threats, and ensuring compliance with telecom and national security standards. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, SOC, and regulatory teams to safeguard telecom infrastructure against evolving threats.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement end-to-end security architecture for 5G core and RAN (Radio Access Network) infrastructure.

Monitor and analyze signaling traffic (SS7, Diameter, GTP, SIP) for threats, anomalies, and misconfigurations.

Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for 5G-specific attack vectors such as slice isolation, edge computing risks, MEC vulnerabilities, and supply chain threats.

Ensure secure integration of 5G with legacy networks (3G/4G) and support secure interconnectivity with IoT platforms.

Enforce telco security standards (e.g., 3GPP, GSMA FS.33/FS.35, NIST SP 800-187) and support compliance audits and regulatory inspections.

Collaborate with SOC teams to detect and respond to 5G network threats in real-time.

Evaluate and implement security controls in virtualization platforms (NFV/SDN) and cloud-native 5G environments.

Work closely with vendors and internal engineering teams to assess vulnerabilities and harden network functions (gNB, UPF, AMF, SMF, etc.).

Develop and maintain incident response procedures and playbooks specific to telecom and 5G threat scenarios.

Contribute to security testing, red teaming, and penetration testing of the 5G stack.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Telecommunications, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum of 7 years experience in network security, with at least 3 years in 5G or telecom security roles.

Deep understanding of 5G architecture (3GPP Release 15/16/17), network slicing, service-based architecture (SBA), and open RAN.

Proven experience handling signaling protocols and threats (SS7, Diameter, GTP, SCTP, NGAP).

Strong knowledge of NFV, SDN, and cloud-native security principles (Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD pipelines).

Familiarity with telco-grade security platforms (e.g., Firewalls, DPI, signaling firewalls, DDoS mitigation tools).

Hands-on with tools such as Wireshark, S1AP Tracer, MitM simulators, and telco-specific threat detection platforms.

Industry certifications preferred: GSMA 5G Security, CCNP Security, GSEC, GCTI, CEH, CISSP, or 5G-related SANS certifications.

Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills to support cross-functional teams and regulatory engagement.

Experience working with mobile network operators (MNOs) or 5G technology vendors.

Understanding of IoT/IIoT security integration with 5G networks.

Awareness of AI/ML-based anomaly detection in telecom environments.

Familiarity with Zero Trust frameworks for 5G ecosystems.
