Job Description

What role will you play in the team?

As a Canada Tax Assistant, you will provide support to the tax team in various aspects of Canadian tax compliance. Your role is to assist in the preparation of tax returns, conduct research, and maintain accurate records, contributing to the overall efficiency of the department. You'll be assisting with Canadian tax compliance and reporting requirements.

What you will do

You will assist in preparing Canadian tax returns, conduct research on tax-related matters, and help maintain organized tax records. Your work will contribute to ensuring compliance with Canadian tax laws and regulations and offer valuable hands-on experience in taxation. Assisting in preparing Canadian tax returns (T1, T2, T3, T5).

Key responsibility

  • Assist in preparing Canadian federal and provincial income tax returns (T1 and T2).
  • Maintain tax records and documentation in accordance with firm policies.
  • Conduct tax research on specific Canadian tax issues.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax provisions and supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile financial data to tax returns, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain necessary information for tax preparation.
  • Prepare working papers and supporting documentation for tax returns.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in Canadian tax law and regulations.
  • Assist with tax audits and controversy matters.
  • Support the tax team in various tax planning and compliance activities.

Required Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Canadian tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and tax software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tax forms such as T1, T2, T3, and T5.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is a plus.
  • Prior internship or experience in taxation is an asset.
