Job Description
KPMG US Tax Services (UAE) LLC is currently seeking a Senior Manager to join our US Tax Services Overseas - Business Tax Services practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE
Responsibilities:
- Manage US tax compliance and consulting projects and advise EMEA-based asset managers, real estate funds, private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds and other investors and fund sponsors on a full spectrum of US corporate tax services, including planning, research, compliance, provision work, and mergers and acquisitions related activities
- Assess and comment on tax calculations models from a US federal income tax perspective; Review US income tax returns for a variety of clients, including US domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, and other information returns
- Support inbound investment into the US: tax-efficient structuring of a non-US organizations investment into the US, including analysis of issues such as US permanent establishment, ECI, withholding taxes, inbound financing, FIRPTA, branch profits, earnings stripping, and application of double tax treaties
- Research, write and review client tax advice relating to domestic and international tax matters, including mergers and acquisition transactions, income tax treaties, sovereign tax exemptions, and other planning opportunities arising from inbound and outbound cross-border transactions
- Oversee and direct international aspects of outsourced or co-sourced compliance and other quantitative oriented international tax engagements as appropriate for asset managers and funds, including modeling cash tax leakage to investors in investment structures
- Manage a portfolio of clients of varying size and scope and act as the point of contact for internal and external clients; build and manage client relationships; Participate in and contribute to market and business activities that are external to the firm while providing direction to and maintaining managerial responsibility for a team
- Leverage generative AI technologies to enhance decision-making processes, prepare findings or review work
Qualifications:
- Minimum eight years of recent hands-on experience/execution with US tax compliance engagements involving corporate, partnership, M&A and/or international tax matters with a public accounting firm. Experience with international taxation in the financial services sector preferred.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; Master's in Taxation, JD, and/or LLM (with a concentration in tax) preferred; licensed CPA, EA or JD/LLM, in addition to others on KPMG's approved credential listing; any individual who does not possess at least one of the approved designations/credentials when their employment commences, has one year from their date of hire to obtain at least one of the approved designations/credentials; should you like to see the complete list of currently approved designations/credentials for the hiring practice/service line, your recruiter can provide you with that list.
- Experience in several of the following areas: the international tax consequences of inbound and outbound investments, the application of income tax treaties to funds and fund investors, the tax implications of cross-border financial products, U.S. trade or business and permanent establishment issues, trading safe harbors, Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA), Controlled Foreign Corporation (CFC) and Subpart F rules, Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) issues, Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income (GILTI), BEAT, sourcing of income, Foreign Tax Credit (FTC), and withholding tax and information reporting matters
- Strong research, writing, Excel modeling, and communication skills
- Experience managing multiple client engagements and client service teams
- Prior experience coaching, mentoring and managing a team of tax professionals
