Associate Director Investments Data Management (Alternatives)
We will count on you to:
- Drive the delivery and operational support for alternative asset data (private markets and hedge funds) including research and due diligence, investment performance, exposures and risk analytics, and reporting initiatives
- Engage closely with key stakeholders across research and investment teams, data analytics, technology, and vendors to support maintenance and sustenance of alternative asset data
- Develop a thorough understanding of the investment platforms, analytics tools, and solutions implemented
- Collaborate with data solutions and performance leadership to define SLAs and support protocols specific to alternative asset data
- Develop detailed understanding of business processes, data flows, and models implemented by Enterprise Architecture and Data Solutions teams, and design support procedures to effectively support post go-live
- Ensure there is detailed support documentation that aligns closely with investment performance business requirements, data mappings, dependencies, data definitions, specifications, and business processes including performance data flows
- Build, manage, lead, and grow a dedicated high-performance investment performance support team
- Develop and implement scalable alternatives data support capabilities with a metrics-driven operations model, ensuring adherence to data ownership, quality, accuracy, and timeliness principles
- Manage stakeholder expectations through effective project management and ensure timely delivery of investment performance support solutions
- Support and influence the development of Mercers overall alternative assets data strategy with insights gained from support metrics
- 10+ years of experience working directly in the finance industry in alternative assets data or analytics role, such as at an Investment Manager, Custodian, or a vendor providing services to an alts focused asset manager
- Extensive experience leading data support teams managing core data domains for the enterprise, including team building, organizational development, process management, vendor management, SLA oversight, and metrics-driven support delivery
- Proven track record in growing and leading performance measurement and reporting teams, preferably with expertise in performance attribution and analytics
- Experience driving adoption of standardized processes, templates, and best practices by investment performance support and requesting teams
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with investment business stakeholders at all organizational levels
- Hands-on experience managing data pipelines and analytics for diverse financial market data sets and multiple asset classes
- Familiarity with investment performance data governance principles, including metadata management and data quality assurance
- Solid conceptual understanding of investment management processes, financial markets, portfolio management, performance reporting, and monitoring, specific to alternative assets
- Demonstrated knowledge of front, middle, and back-office functions within investment management, wealth management, or asset management industries as they relate to performance measurement
- Experience integrating disparate investment data ecosystems, data models, and analytics pipelines to support complex performance measurement workflows
- Experience delivering new features to the business including: scoping, building, testing, and deployment of functionality.
- Proven ability to manage and balance stakeholder expectations in an investment performance context
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in tools such as Excel, Vision, PowerPoint, and Word for investment performance analysis and reporting
- Proficiency in SQL, relational database management systems (RDBMS), data modeling, data extraction, and analysis of both structured and unstructured investment performance data
- Outcome oriented, energetic, proactive, critical thinking and a desire to see things done efficiently
- Ability to balance quick wins with long term effectiveness and efficiency

- Experience with Alternatives specific vendors such as: iLevel, S&P EDM, DealCloud, Dasseti, Diligent Vault, Altvia, Canoe, Accelex, Vidrio, HFR, etc
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Industry certifications within finance, data, team management, project management disciplines are highly desired
