Job Description

Cloud Operations + Innovation is the team behind the cloud. Within CO+I, Datacenter Construction Delivery (DCD) is responsible for delivering datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business meeting all safety, quality, sustainability, schedule, and budget requirements.
The DCD Construction Sub-Regional Director (India) oversees the teams deployment of large-scale, campus and/or regionally based delivery solutions while also socializing with regional and global leaders. Manages and advocates for safe worksites by adhering to organizational and industry procedures; reviews prior audit results and relevant legislation to recommend and manage safety compliance. Influences and provides direction and coaching to internal and external partners to facilitate and accomplish complex, critical issues which may significantly impact global construction projects. Reviews and provides feedback to the team regarding resource procurement, allocation, and inventory. Develops, manages, and reports on scope, schedule, and budget of project. Oversees and implements project controls in work activities. Manages multiple projects or may be top on-site manager on a single, large, and extensive project.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees the teams deployment of large-scale, campus and/or regionally based delivery solutions (e.g., new and/or retrofit Data Center solutions) while also socializing with regional and global leaders.
  • Sets goals for internal and external project teams under their purview of responsibility, delegates responsibilities, measures performance against contracted key performance indicators (KPIs), and seeks and delivers feedback to achieve timely results.
  • Analyzes and recommends innovative delivery options utilizing best practices and trends.
  • Supports the development and implementation of all organizational procedures and standards, and ensures they are followed by all team members and vendors.
  • Influences the development and implementation of organizational policies and processes with Real Estate and Facilities (RE&F) partners resulting in cost savings, enhanced customer service, or improved asset management.
  • Influences and provides direction and coaching to internal and external partners to facilitate and accomplish complex, critical issues which may significantly impact global construction projects (e.g., establishing and executing upon team goals, following business processes, engaging vendor relationships, and fostering cross-group collaboration efforts with the agreed-upon project strategy and milestones).
  • Reviews and provides feedback to the team regarding resource procurement, allocation, and inventory.
  • Ensures storage space is provided for equipment/materials.
  • Leads the teams accountability for on-schedule delivery of multiple projects by ensuring project progress reports including scope, schedule, and budget are provided.
  • Leads and drives coordination for meetings and activities with vendors, cost managers, and/or owner/architect/contractors. Initializes and identifies opportunities to discuss and integrate lessons learned.
  • Engages, advises, and collaborates with other internal teams (e.g., Open Source Security Coalition [OSSC], Microsoft Information Technology [MSIT], Legal, Project Engineering, Business Risk Management, etc.) to maintain the corporate vision and create goals for the projects.
  • Manages and advocates for safe worksites by adhering to organizational and industry procedures.
  • Reviews prior audit results and relevant legislation in order to recommend and manage safety compliance.
  • Shares lessons learned with relevant stakeholders.
  • Establishes, reviews, approves, and communicates risk mitigation goals and develops metrics, dashboards and/or scorecards to drive progress.
  • Analyzes safety metrics and communicates and applies results to drive project action and individual development to lower-level staff and vendors.
  • Directs and oversees the management of vendors, ensuring compliance with contracts and prior audit results.
  • Controls vendor performance relative to cash-flow and budget summaries (with cost management support).
  • Provides direction and correction to vendors and internal support teams as needed.
  • Manages the preparation of requests for proposals (RFPs), project expenditure requests (PERs), and other project approval tools and templates.
  • Identifies and directs vendor scope of work, design review of site and building plans, change orders, and invoices.
  • Oversees the creation and application of best practices for identifying and driving cost-effective solutions for the strategic and tactical delivery of a construction project.
  • Develops, manages, and reports on scope, schedule, and budget of project.
  • Oversees and implements project controls in work activities (e.g., project expenditure requests (PERs), professional service requests (PSRs), change orders, and pay applications).
  • Leverages resources to help employees develop skills and supports their career interests.
  • Supports mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning.
  • Identifies growth opportunities, builds development plans with direct reports, and conducts development discussions.
  • Drives the execution of projects by identifying customer and operational needs, setting priorities, removing barriers and obstacles, and allocating resources.
  • Partners and collaborates with other teams on related deliverables, and leverages others in relevant work streams.
  • Ensures fair and equal treatment of employees, avoids favoritism, addresses difficult issues directly, and shows empathy and compassion.
  • Models compliance and represents the Microsoft Values and the One Microsoft culture.
  • Promotes company policies, procedures, mission, and values, by training and providing direction to direct reports in their use and application.
  • Establishes and communicates performance expectations; identifies performance gaps and monitors performance to ensure plans are met.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 20+ years related experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in hyper scale datacenter, micro-electronics, pharmaceutical or other critical infrastructure is required
  • Experienced at recruiting, managing and developing an organization that promotes diversity and inclusion
  • Proven experience and passion in safety leadership
  • Strong ethics in the management of large capital projects
  • Excellent communication, leadership & influencing skills
  • Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations with proven success in participating in cross-functional teams to deliver on key projects.
  • Must be able to work within a dynamic team of full-time employees and consultants.
  • High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished and quality work product.
