One MobiKwik Systems - Legal Counsel - LLB/LLM

Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned legal counsel with hands-on experience in the payments industry, especially with Payment Aggregator (PA) guidelines, RBI compliance, and fintech regulations. This individual will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice, ensuring regulatory adherence, and supporting cross-functional teams on legal and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on legal and regulatory requirements related to Payment Aggregator licensing under RBI guidelines.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including merchant onboarding agreements, MSA, payment gateway agreements, and partner contracts.
- Ensure Zaakpay's policies and procedures are aligned with applicable RBI guidelines, FEMA, PMLA, IT Act, DPDP Act, and data privacy regulations.
- Liaise with regulators (e.g., RBI) and external counsel on compliance filings, inspections, and audits.
- Monitor ongoing regulatory developments in the payments/fintech space and assess their impact on the business.
- Work with internal teams (product, engineering, risk, compliance) to enable legally sound product launches.

- Lead internal training on regulatory and legal matters related to payments and compliance.
- Support legal due diligence and audits as required for partnerships, investments, or expansion.
Requirements
- Law degree (LL.B / LL.M) from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 6 years of legal experience, with at least 3+ years in the fintech/payments domain.
- In-depth knowledge of RBI's Payment Aggregator and Payment Gateway Guidelines, and other fintech regulations.
- Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with data protection, cross-border payments, and KYC/AML frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in handling RBI licensing applications and regulatory correspondence.
- Prior experience working with legal teams in a tech-driven financial services environment.
- Certifications in fintech law, cyber law, or compliance (optional but a plus).
