Senior Banking Operations Expert - MBB Consulting Firm - Contractual

Our client, a global consulting firm, is supporting a mid-sized Indian bank in a live cost optimization project. The engagement focuses on non-personnel operating expenses (Opex), with the aim of identifying benchmarks, best practices, and opportunities for optimization across key cost heads.
As part of this initiative, the consulting team is looking to onboard a Senior Banking Operations Expert with deep knowledge of cost structures and operational expense levers in the Indian banking sector. The expert will play a critical role in providing insights, frameworks, and real-world benchmarks that guide the client's cost optimization journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on best practices in Opex management across key cost categories such as branch rentals, ATM network, stationery, e-payments, and customer communications
- Provide benchmarking data and peer insights on scale-wise expense levels for mid-sized banks in India
- Participate in deep-dive working sessions or workshops (2-3 days per month) with the consulting team and client leadership
- Support the design of practical cost optimization levers tailored to the bank's size, operating model, and customer segments
- Provide strategic recommendations on balancing efficiency with customer experience in cost reduction initiatives
Your Background:
- Senior leadership experience (current or former) in banking operations, COO/Head of Operations, or related roles
- Proven track record in cost optimization and operational efficiency within retail or mid-sized banks
- Deep familiarity with operational expense drivers, vendor negotiations, and digital transformation initiatives impacting Opex
- Prior experience at banks such as AU, Kotak, IDFC, Axis, ICICI, and Yes Bank
- Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate benchmark insights into actionable recommendations
Other Information:
- Engagement Type: Part-time, flexible engagement model. Typically 2-3 days of deep engagement per month (remote), with occasional travel to Bengaluru for workshops
