Job Description
- As a MySQL Database Architect/Consultant, you will be responsible for assessing, optimizing, and redesigning an existing multi-instance MySQL environment. The primary goal is to create a robust, scalable, and modular architecture that can accommodate new functional verticals while enhancing overall system efficiency.
Your key responsibilities will include analyzing the MySQL database structure, relationships, and performance across multiple instances. You will identify design inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and normalization/denormalization issues. Additionally, you will develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers. Your expertise will be crucial in proposing and documenting a revised, scalable database architecture, including schema redesign, indexing, and optimization strategies.
Monitoring and optimizing memory usage and database performance to enhance efficiency will be a key aspect of your role. You will design and incorporate new databases/instances to support additional functional verticals and recommend best practices for data integrity, security, backups, replication, and high availability. Collaborating with in-house teams to ensure a smooth transition with minimal downtime is vital, as is documenting current vs. proposed architecture clearly for both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications for this role include certifications such as Oracle Certified MySQL Developer/Admin and experience in data-sensitive environments like analytics, finance, or health. Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, caching systems (Redis), or cloud-managed database solutions is a plus.
The ideal candidate must possess more than 5 years of strong experience in database design and optimization. A proven track record of improving database performance using indexing and query tuning is essential, along with hands-on experience with multiple interconnected MySQL databases. Knowledge of database memory management, caching, and resource allocation, as well as the ability to produce technical and business-readable documentation, are also required.

Experience in phased database migration/redesign, knowledge of encryption, access control, and isolation in databases, and references from past projects or client work with quantifiable impact are highly valued. Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions, NoSQL databases, and big data technologies is considered a plus.
Your deliverables will include a current state database analysis report, proposed high-level and low-level database architecture, Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), an implementation strategy for migration/redesign, and documentation with recommendations for future-proofing the database environment.,
