Job Description

As a Resident in the hospital, your primary responsibility will be to coordinate the activities of other staff in the ward, including Staff Nurses, Ward Secretaries, and Ward boys, to ensure the smooth functioning of ward activities through teamwork.
Upon a patient's admission, you will conduct a thorough and detailed work-up, recording all findings in the initial assessment case sheet within the first hour. Subsequently, you will document a care plan in consultation with the primary physician and educate the patient about their condition.

You are required to make detailed rounds of all patients under your care prior to the Consultant's rounds, keeping them informed of all findings, progress, and treatment plans. During rounds, you must note the patient's current status on the progress sheet and review the treatment chart with the Registrar or Consultant, providing clear instructions to the Nursing Staff.
Timely entry of investigation reports in the master investigation chart and communication of reports to the Consultant or Registrar are essential tasks. Following a Consultant's visit, you must document their findings and instructions in the case sheet and ensure the Nurse Incharge is briefed accordingly.
Before leaving the hospital, it is mandatory to hand over all patients to the next Resident on duty, providing information on investigations required, changes in the treatment plan, and any special instructions. Additionally, as a Resident on night duty, attending to each call personally, documenting the patient's status, and notifying the appropriate hospital departments of your whereabouts are crucial responsibilities.

Respecting patient privacy, especially when examining female patients, and ensuring patients in ICUs are not left unattended are key aspects of your role. You should assist the Registrar or Consultant in managing critically ill patients in the ICU and maintain awareness of all patients" statuses under the care of respective Consultants.
Furthermore, writing discharge summaries for patients under a Consultant, completing pre-operative workups in surgical departments, and following hospital policies without criticism in front of patients are important duties. Any disagreements with treatment plans should be discussed with the concerned Consultant, and attendance at clinical/academic programs is mandatory.
Finally, you may be assigned additional medical work within or outside the hospital premises, participate in health checkup camps, respond to emergency situations, and adhere to the Code Blue Protocol. Absence from clinical/academic programs, working for another healthcare institution, accumulating compensatory off, and criticizing hospital policies in the presence of patients are not permitted.,
