Department Human Resources

Job purpose

SeaLead is a global shipping line connecting emerging markets with major economies through container shipping and liner services. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Singapore. SeaLead initially started with feeder services and then expanded into long-haul liner services over time. Operating in 51 locations and servicing 77 ports worldwide, SeaLead provides a comprehensive range of shipping solutions, including container and feeder services, inland transport, and customised solutions.

We are currently looking for a Human Resources (HR) Manager to oversee SeaLeads HR activities in India. This role will be responsible to look manage the full spectrum of HR activities for 3 locations, primarily in Chennai, Mumbai and Gandidham. This role will be based in Chennai but will require periodical travelling to other branch offices.

Main tasks and responsibilities

1. HR Leadership

  • Partner with business leaders to provide HR guidance and solutions to drive performance and growth.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the local HR team to ensure high performance and capability.

2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment for all levels, ensuring timely hiring of qualified candidates.
  • Collaborate with department heads to forecast staffing needs and develop workforce plans.
  • Strengthen employer branding initiatives and talent pipelines.

3. Performance Management

  • Oversee the performance appraisal process and ensure alignment with global performance frameworks.
  • Support managers in setting KPIs, conducting reviews, and driving a culture of feedback and accountability.

4. Learning & Development

  • Identify training needs and develop learning plans.
  • Coordinate employee development programs, leadership training, and onboarding initiatives.

5. Compensation & Benefits

  • Administer payroll, benefits, and statutory contributions.
  • Conduct annual compensation benchmarking and recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure internal equity and compliance with company compensation policies.

6. Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Promote a positive work environment and handle grievances, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution fairly.
  • Plan and execute employee engagement programs and retention strategies.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and collaboration.

7. Compliance & Policy Management

  • Ensure compliance with Indian labor laws, and other statutory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
  • Review and update HR policies and employee handbooks regularly.

8. HR Operations & Systems

  • Oversee HRIS (DarwinBox) systems, data accuracy, and analytics.
  • Track HR metrics (attrition, headcount, time-to-fill, etc.) and provide reports to management.
  • Drive HR process improvement and automation initiatives.

English

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in human resources or business administration.
  • 810 years of HR experience, with at least 35 years in a managerial role.
  • Prior experience in maritime industry (Liner Shipping) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience in a multinational or multi-location environment preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS (DarwinBox) tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
