THE POSITION

The Data Engineer will play a key role in building, managing, and optimizing data systems and pipelines that support decision-making across the Shiv Nadar School ecosystem. This role involves creating a robust data infrastructure, integrating multiple systems, and enabling reliable access to actionable insights for educational and operational effectiveness.

MAIN PURPOSE

The Data Engineer will:

1. Lead the development and maintenance of data pipelines, integrations, and infrastructure to support data-driven decisions.

2. Ensure the consistency, integrity, and security of data across platforms.

3. Partner with teams to deliver data models that drive academic insights, operational tracking, and reporting.

4. Contribute to the larger vision of using data to improve student outcomes and operational efficiency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

DATA PIPELINES & SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines across academic, HR, and operational systems.

Integrate data from multiple sources, including MIS platforms, LMS, ERP, HRMS, and third-party APIs.

Collaborate with IT teams to ensure system compatibility and data integrity.

DATA QUALITY & GOVERNANCE

Monitor data quality metrics and resolve inconsistencies across systems.

Implement protocols for data accuracy, validation, and documentation.

Ensure compliance with data protection laws and internal privacy standards.

REPORTING & INSIGHTS

Build analysis-ready datasets for use by analytics and research teams.

Support dashboards, scorecards, and advanced analytics by structuring optimized datasets.

Enable predictive modeling through clean, structured data pipelines.

CAPACITY BUILDING & COLLABORATION

Work with academic, operational, and leadership teams to understand and meet data needs.

Offer training and support to internal teams on data handling best practices.

Promote a data-driven culture by simplifying insights and encouraging adoption.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Prepare data models and dashboards to be used by leadership and department heads.

Collaborate with external consultants, auditors, or vendors as required.

Contribute to the wider vision of data transformation at Shiv Nadar School.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

35 years of experience in a data engineering, backend analytics, or business intelligence role.

Strong foundation in data structures, systems design, and database management.

PREFERRED SKILLS

Proficiency in SQL and Python.

Familiarity with cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Experience working with data warehouse technologies (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).

Experience with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration platforms.

Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and education data systems.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
