We are hiring a Legal Recovery Officer (Pre-Litigation)/ Legal Collector to manage escalated and high-value delinquent accounts through compliant negotiation and structured pre-legal recovery processes. The role focuses strictly on pre-litigation activities and requires strong compliance awareness and negotiation skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Account Management: Oversee a portfolio of delinquent accounts, typically ranging from $1000 to over $50,000, across various regions.
- Legal Enforcement: Vet accounts for pre-litigation review, prepare necessary legal backup documentation, and initiate actions such as wage garnishments, liens, or property seizure when necessary.
- Negotiation: Conduct high-level negotiations with debtors to secure payment arrangements, settlements, or structured repayment plans while maintaining creditor protection.
- Insolvency Monitoring: Identify and manage accounts involving bankruptcy or consumer proposals, ensuring all legal stays are followed.
- Skip Tracing: Use specialized databases and public records to locate "fugitive" debtors and identify assets for potential attachment.
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to regional and federal laws, such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) or province-specific regulations like the Ontario Collection and Debt Settlement Services Act.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 2-4 years in third-party collections (banking, telco, or legal recovery).
- Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with consumer insolvency, credit reporting (bureau analysis), and the legal recovery process (Small Claims Court or provincial enforcement).

- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills for persuasive negotiation and professional correspondence with lawyers, sheriffs, and trustees.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with CRM platforms, automated dialing systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Personal Traits: High resilience, emotional intelligence (to handle confrontational situations), and strong attention to detail for audit and legal records.
Preferred Experience: Candidates who have worked with companies based in Western countries (USA, Canada, Europe) will be preferred.
Must be willing to work in EST shift (9am -5PM EST)
