Functional Job Summary:-

This job family brings engineering discipline and best practices to investigating, architecting, designing, and implementing application test, and verification solutions. This includes testing, and verification of features and functions to new, and existing solutions, which meet Standard Insurances business needs.

Investigation:

Investigation starts with understanding the business problem to be solved. SDET may lead or participate in requirements gathering that will feed an iterative based methodology. Multiple application technologies, and project/product needs are commonly identified, and are integrated into existing, or new solutions. SDETs are expected to be proficient at investigative process, which enables designing, and implementing these solutions.

Architect and Design:

Designing solutions using agile test-driven methodology and DevOps best practices is the expectation. SDET can design and develop software while also being responsible for the quality of the software through full lifecycle testing. They will work collaboratively with software architects, developers, to design, develop, and implement test automation frameworks, strategies, and solutions to ensure product quality and improve Cycle Time. SDETs are expected to utilize open-source, third-party and internally developed solutions to meet business needs. Software development in multiple modem languages is required with good proficiency. Prototyping and wireframe design is expected when introducing new approaches and techniques. All architecture, and design is expected to adhere to enterprise level application security best practices. SDETs are expected to fulfill a development or test engineer role as required by the team.

Implement:

SDETs are expected to build and automate the application testing process, including application testing framework, and processes. Knowledge or proficiency in the current industry toolsets, and best practices for this purpose is required.

SDETs must possess and demonstrate systems and critical thinking and leverage that in a collaborative team-based environment. The ability to play varying roles comfortably is required. They must be self-directed and have the ability to technically lead at a senior level. Working in a multi-vendor, offshore model is now the norm in the industry and SDETs need to know how to be successful in this model.

The languages and/or platforms the SDETs should be familiar with are: Java Including development of Services and/or Micro-Services .Net, C++ Salesforce.Com or Force.com Angular, HTML5 with Responsive Design REST Perl, Python, Groovy, Gradle, JavaScript, and PHP Data Repositories (Oracle/SQL Server with MSBI and open source databases) with some knowledge of ETL LeanFT, UFT, Selenium, JMeter, LoadRunner, BlazeMeter, SoapUI, Cucumber, SonarQube, TestNG, Fortify, and WhiteHat Git, Jira, Jenkins, Maven, and XL Deploy/Release Familiarity with AWS, Azure or other Cloud services Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes or other containers Familiarity with Ansible, Puppet or Chef Experience with testing methodologies such as Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavioral Driven Development (BDD), Exploratory Testing, Role Based Testing, White-box, Black-box, Grey-box, and Dark Release Testing. Experience with testing levels such as Unit, Integration, Component, System, and Operational Readiness testing

Experience with testing types such as Installation, Build Verification, Compatibility, Smoke, Regression, Functional, Performance, Security, Usability, Accessibility, Localization, A/B, and User Acceptance testing. Experience with automated test frameworks and test harnesses. Experience with test data management, and test data masking. Experience or comfort operating in a distributed, non-homogeneous technology environment.

Knowledge:

Uses professional concepts; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Job Complexity:

Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has internal and some external contacts.

Supervision:

Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Experience:

Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience. B.Sc. Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems preferred, or equivalent experience as a substitute.
