We are an early-stage ecommerce venture, backed by a renowned South Indian retail chain with over 50 years of legacy and 6 flagship super-stores across Tamil Nadu. Our mission is to bring the same trusted shopping experience to online customers, delivering value and quality at every step.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Ecommerce Category Manager to drive growth and profitability within their assigned category. This role requires expertise in purchasing, assortment planning, product merchandising and collaboration across teams to enhance customer experience and drive sales targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Ownership:
Take full ownership of the category's P&L with a focus on key metrics such as:
- Gross Merchandise Value (GMV)
- Inventory turnover
- Appropriate selection catering to customer segments and trends
- Cost efficient sourcing
- Marketing effectiveness

- Monetization opportunities
Product Curation & Merchandising:
- Build and manage a compelling product portfolio aligned with customer preferences and market demand.
- Ensure product listings are optimized for visibility and conversions.
- Plan and execute promotional strategies to boost sales and customer engagement.
Market Benchmarking & Trends:
- Stay ahead of market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to refine assortment strategies.
- Implement competitive pricing models.
- Identify and adopt new trends relevant to the category.
Data & Analytics:
- Use data-driven insights to identify growth opportunities and enhance customer experience.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track category performance.
- Develop monthly inventory and replenishment plans to maintain optimal stock levels.
Operations & Collaboration:
- Manage day-to-day category operations and ensure seamless processes.
- Work closely with warehouse and operations teams to oversee inventory management and reconciliation.
- Collaborate with product team and internal teams for appropriate merchandising and app features, to boost conversion.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a Master's degree is a plus.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in category management, vendor management, or sourcing experience in ecommerce or retail.
- Expertise in product selection, price negotiation, and supplier relationship management.
- In-depth knowledge of the Tamil Nadu and South Indian market is an advantage.
- Proficiency in analytics and attention to detail.
- Fluency in the following languages would be good to have: English, Tamil and Hindi.
- Team management experience.
- Prior experience of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Experience in B2C space preferred.
