About The School
The School of Risk & Actuarial Studies has an established international reputation for excellence in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Actuarial Studies, its courses in risk management, data analytics, and superannuation and pensions, as well as its supervision of Honours and PhD students. The school also houses the GARP-affiliated risk management program in the Master of Commerce. The Schools reputation is built on outstanding staff, students and alumni, a strong international research profile and well developed local and international linkages with academics, industry, and government. The school hosts one of the largest actuarial programs globally (>1500 actuarial students enrolled, with more than 480 new entrants into our flagship Bachelor of Actuarial Studies alone in 2024) and is the globally #1 ranked business school in risk & insurance and actuarial science research. Why Your Role Matters
The School of Risk & Actuarial is seeking to appoint a Level B/ Level C (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her scholarly research and professional activities, including publishing in strong relevant academic journals, making contributions to teaching in the School, and to and an appropriate level of engagement in university, industry, government, and/or community roles.?
The role will report to the Head of School and has no direct reports.
This position is being offered as either a Lecturer (Level B) or a Senior Lecturer (Level C), the?appointment level?will be commensurate with the candidates qualifications and experience.
This position is based in Sydney Australia. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance will be considered and may be offered to the preferred candidate.?

Responsibilities
As a Lecturer (Level B) you will:
- Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
- Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
- Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
- Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
- Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline).
- Make independent contributions to research that have a significant impact in their field of expertise and create a nationally recognised research track record.
- Undertake independent research in discipline or related area (as per the norms of the discipline), making an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise.
- Develop research groups in area of specialist expertise and research methods that are appropriate to the discipline.
- Attract peer recognition and establish research network/s (based on the norms of the discipline) at national level.
- Obtain research income from nationally competitive research grants (and/or research fellowships) and research end-users as a member or leader, at or above the level that is relevant to the discipline in leading universities.
?You will possess the following skills and experience required as a Level B:?
- A PhD in a related discipline (e.g., actuarial studies, economics, econometrics, risk and insurance, quantitative finance, machine learning, or similar)
- Capability to contribute to, and further expand on, the schools core research and teaching strengths in areas such as actuarial analytics, risk management & insurance, retirement and pensions. Applicants with expertise in areas such as (i) actuarial data science, (ii) behavioural insights in insurance, retirement and pensions, and/or (iii) climate risk analytics, are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry.
- Desirable: post-doctoral research experience, and/or experience in industry in a relevant field, and/or hold or have almost obtained professional actuarial qualifications such as Associateship of the Actuaries Institute or equivalent.
- Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding.
- Desirable: post-doctoral research experience, and/or experience in industry in a relevant field, and/or hold or have almost obtained professional actuarial qualifications such as Fellowship of the Actuaries Institute or equivalent.
