Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Collect blood donations and label samples accurately
Conduct blood grouping, cross-matching, and compatibility testing
Perform screening tests to ensure blood safety (e g , disease testing)
Prepare blood components and manage their storage under appropriate conditions
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment used in blood banking
Keep detailed records of blood collection, testing, storage, and distribution
Monitor inventory and coordinate blood supply with hospital departments
Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with regulatory standards
Assist in emergency transfusions and manage rare blood type requirements

Collaborate with medical staff for patient transfusion needs
Qualifications and Experience Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or Blood Bank Technology certificationTypically 2 to 10 years of experience in blood bank or hospital laboratory settingsKnowledge of hematology, microbiology, transfusion medicine, and blood bank operations
Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and hospital protocols
Skills Phlebotomy and sample handling Blood typing and cross-matching Laboratory equipment operation and maintenance Attention to detail and documentation skills
Strong understanding of infection control and safety standards Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
