Position:Lead Substation Operations & Maintenance MUL
Purpose / Objective

The Lead Substation Operations & Maintenance (MUL) is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of substation equipment through proactive maintenance and continuous monitoring. The role focuses on maximizing system uptime by implementing robust maintenance strategies, conducting regular inspections, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and operational standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining asset health, minimizing equipment failures, and enhancing substation efficiency to support uninterrupted power distribution within MPSEZ Utilities Limited.

The role ensures reliable, uninterrupted substation operations by maintaining equipment availability, minimizing breakdowns, and executing effective maintenance strategies. The Lead is responsible for strengthening system reliability, improving equipment lifecycle, and ensuring seamless power distribution by coordinating with OEMs, service providers, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Substation Operations and Equipment Reliability
- Ensure uninterrupted substation operations by maintaining equipment availability as per defined KPIs and minimizing forced outages.
- Enhance switchyard equipment performance through structured preventive, periodic, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of circuit breakers, isolators, transformers, and auxiliary systems.
- Strengthen SCADA integration to improve real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and fault response capabilities.
2. Preventive, Predictive & Corrective Maintenance
- Achieve 100% execution of preventive and predictive maintenance activities by planning and scheduling daily, monthly, and annual maintenance programs.
- Reduce unplanned downtime through proactive troubleshooting and condition-based monitoring of EHV substation equipment.
- Optimize shutdown and outage planning by aligning maintenance schedules with system availability and operational requirements.
3. Protection System Management and Testing
- Ensure reliable protection system functionality through testing, maintenance, and compliance checks of EHV relays and protection circuits.
- Improve fault detection and mitigation by analyzing the performance of the protection system and coordinating enhancements with OEMs.
- Maintain comprehensive protection system documentation to meet regulatory and audit requirements.
4. Safety, Compliance & HSE Adherence
- Ensure a safety-first operational environment by strictly enforcing HSE norms and undertaking hazard identification and risk assessments.
- Strengthen operational safety through protective interlocking schemes, emergency response plans, and periodic safety audits.
- Maintain compliance documentation including IMS records, safety checklists, and regulatory audit reports.
5. Budget Planning & Inventory Optimization
- Optimize maintenance budgets through planned, cost-effective execution of substation maintenance activities within approved financial limits.
- Improve inventory management by monitoring critical spares, managing procurement cycles, and ensuring adequate stock availability.
- Reduce material wastage and cost overruns by standardizing procurement processes and aligning inventory levels with operational demand.
6. Stakeholder Management & CrossFunctional Coordination
- Coordinate effectively with site teams, control centers, and maintenance units to ensure seamless substation operations.
- Collaborate with OEMs, service providers, and regulatory authorities for technical support, compliance audits, and system improvements.
- Work closely with planning, finance, and HSE teams to align maintenance priorities with broader business goals.
7. Team Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Enhance team productivity by providing technical guidance, task allocation, and training in troubleshooting and maintenance best practices.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying performance gaps and implementing efficiency-enhancing initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards through structured performance monitoring and review mechanisms.

Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Qualification:
BE / B.Tech – Electrical Engineering - Work Experience:
12–15 years of experience in substation operations, maintenance, or related electrical utility functions.
