Director, Investment Banking
Partner Track | Bangalore | Full-time
The Opportunity :
This is not a salaried Director position. It is a partner-track role for someone who wants to build a business within [Company Name] platform - originating deals, closing transactions, and earning meaningful economic participation in the outcomes they create.
[Company Name] is India's first and leading specialist investment bank for Deep-tech and Sustainability. We provide growth capital raising and M&A advisory with deep coverage across five themes : Energy and Climate Transition, Mobility and Transportation, AI and Frontier Tech, Sustainable Agriculture and Food, and Built Environment and Materials. We work on deal sizes in the range of $5-100 million, typically Series A, B and later stages.
The firm has facilitated over $150M in climate capital across pioneering transactions : India's first electric two-wheeler M&A (Greaves-Ampere), the largest E3W Series A at the time ($40M for Altigreen), a pre-Series A for ION Energy backed by Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund, and most recently a $40M Series C for Routematic from Fullerton Carbon Action Fund and Shift4Good. With 600+ active investor relationships across India, Singapore, the US, Europe, and the Middle East, [Company Name] has consistently opened India's deep-tech ecosystem to first-time global investors.
The firm was founded by [Founder Name], who has over 23 years of experience in Corporate and Investment Banking and is one of India's first investment bankers to specialize in Electric Mobility. She has been featured in the Top 20 All-India M&A League Tables (Venture Intelligence, 2018) and recognized by IESA as one of the Top 40 Women Leaders Driving the Energy Sector in India (2023).
Who We're Looking For :
We want someone hungry. Someone who will walk into a conference, spot three potential mandates, and follow through until one converts. Someone who has closed real deals - not just worked on them - and wants to do it again with the backing of India's strongest climate-tech investor platform.
The right person for this role has two things in combination :
- The drive to originate : You are energized by meeting founders, building investor relationships, and generating pipeline. You don't wait for mandates to land on your desk - you go find them. You are comfortable with cold outreach, networking events, and the grind of converting a conversation into a signed engagement.
- The skill to close : You have hands-on experience closing equity fundraising or M&A transactions. You understand deal structuring, valuation, investor negotiations, and the mechanics of getting from mandate to money-in-the-bank. You've done this at least 2-3 times in your career at the $5-50M deal range.
If you have deep IB pedigree but prefer being staffed on deals rather than sourcing them, this role is not for you. If you're an aggressive BD person but have never sat through a due diligence process or negotiated a term sheet, this role is not for you. We need both instincts in one person.
What You'll Do :
You will work directly with the Founder, leading deal origination and execution for [Company Name] climate-tech advisory practice.
- Generate pipeline : Independently lead BD outreach through networks, events, conferences, and direct founder engagement. Build sector-specific theses that position [Company Name] early in emerging opportunities. Add qualified names to the pipeline and drive follow-through to mandate conversion.
- Close deals : Own end-to-end deal execution from mandate to close - structuring, modeling oversight, investor outreach, negotiation, and closing. Leverage [Company Name]'s 600+ investor network and analyst team for execution support.
- Build investor relationships : Actively engage with global and Indian investors across [Company Name]'s focus sectors. Develop deep, trust-based relationships that turn into repeat deal flow. Represent[Company Name] at industry events and conferences.
- Lead with intelligence : Bring analytical rigour to everything - from evaluating a potential mandate's viability to structuring a fundraise to defending a valuation. Use AI tools and the team's research capabilities to move faster and think deeper.

- Investor network : India's best global investor network for climate-tech - 600+ relationships across India, Singapore, US, Europe, and the Middle East, with regular engagement and warm introductions.
- Execution support : A team of Associates and Analysts who will support deal execution - financial models, valuation frameworks, information memoranda, due diligence coordination, and investor outreach logistics.
- Data and tools : Database access to Tracxn, Venture Intelligence, and similar platforms.
Compensation - Designed for Ownership :
This is a partner-track role. The compensation structure rewards origination and deal-closing, not tenure.
Component Details :


- Fixed Pay Will be discussed during interview process

- Performance Bonus 100-150% of fixed pay, linked to achievement of OKRs (pipeline activity, mandate conversion, revenue generation)

- Revenue Share 10% of gross fee revenue on deals originated from new-to-firm client relationships you bring in

- Illustrative Total In a year where you close one mid-size deal : total compensation can reach INR 75L-1 Cr+. Two deals in a year can take total comp well above INR 1.5 Cr. The economics improve with each additional deal closed.
The message is simple : if you back yourself and deliver, the upside is real and uncapped. If you're looking for a high fixed salary in a comfortable role, this isn't the right fit.
What Success Looks Like in Year One :
Months 1-3 : Immersion and Pipeline Activation

- Deep immersion in [Company Name] five sector themes, active deal pipeline, deal process, and investor network (600+

- Attend and actively network at 3-5 industry events and conferences

- Sit in on 2-3 live deals to understand [Company Name]'s execution standards and client dynamics

- Build initial BD pipeline : 30-50 new qualified founder and investor contacts from events, warm intros, and direct outreach

- Develop point-of-view on at least one climate-tech sub-sector you want to own
Months 4-8 : Pipeline Building and Mandate Conversion


- Independently sourcing, qualifying, and advancing founder relationships toward mandates

- 3-5 qualified mandate opportunities brought to the table (founder conversation held, real fundraising need identified, [Company Name] is a credible fit, pitch/proposal worth pursuing)

- 1-2 signed mandates from self-originated pipeline

- At least one sub-sector thesis developed independently - something you can speak to with authority at events and in investor conversations

- Regular investor engagement building toward deal-specific introductions
Months 9-12 : Deal Execution and Early Revenue


- At least 1 signed mandate in active execution, with you leading the process end-to-end (deal structuring, model oversight, investor outreach, founder management)

The Partner Track :
[Company Name] is building toward a partnership model where senior team members who originate and close deals independently earn meaningful economic participation in the firm. This is not a theoretical career path - it is the firm's operating model.
Phase 1 - Prove It (0-18 months)
Can you originate, execute, and close? This phase is about demonstrating that you can independently generate deal flow, manage client relationships, and bring transactions to completion. You'll be evaluated on deal origination activity, execution quality, client relationship depth, and revenue contribution.
Phase 2 - Build It (18-36 months)
High performers in this phase stop being team members and start becoming firm builders. You begin co-owning client relationships, contribute to business development strategy, mentor junior team members, and develop a reputation in the market as a go-to advisor in your sub-sector. This is where we start asking : would founders see this person as a long-term advisor? Do they think like an owner?
Phase 3 - Own It (36+ months)
Partnership at [Company Name] means meaningful economic participation in the firm, involvement in strategic decisions, and helping define new sectors, products, and geographies. Partnership decisions are based on trust built under pressure and performance across multiple deal cycles - not years served.
For a Director-level hire who demonstrates consistent origination and deal-closing capability, the path to partnership economics can be significantly accelerated.
What You Bring :
- Deal-closing experience : 4-7 years of hands-on involvement in equity fundraising or M&A transactions in the $5-50M range, with at least 2-3 deals where you personally led or were a core driver through to completion - not just contributed to the team.
- Origination instinct : Demonstrated ability to source deals, build relationships with founders and investors, and convert conversations into mandates. This can come from IB, VC, PE, or an entrepreneurial background - what matters is the evidence.
- Financial and analytical depth : Strong command of financial modeling, valuation (DCF, comps, VC method, NAV), deal structuring, and term sheet negotiation. You can review a model, defend a valuation, and structure a transaction without hand-holding.
- Communication : Excellent written and spoken communication. You can hold a room with founders and investors, craft compelling pitch narratives, and write concise, professional deal materials.
- Entrepreneurial mindset : You prefer ownership over comfort. You are energized by ambiguity, comfortable making decisions without a playbook, and motivated by building something rather than maintaining it.
- Education : Qualified CA, CFA, and/or Masters or PG degree in Management/Finance preferred. Relevant experience in corporate finance or investment banking is valued, but attitude and track record matter more than pedigree.
Bonus (Not Required, But Valued) :
- Existing relationships with VCs, PE funds, or climate-tech investors
- Familiarity with climate-tech, deep-tech, or sustainability sectors
- Experience with AI tools for research, modeling, or deal execution
- Comfort representing a firm at conferences, panels, and industry events
