Job Description

A consultant cardiologist is a senior medical specialist responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing complex diseases of the heart and blood vessels. [1]

Key Responsibilities

- Patient Care: Conduct outpatient clinics, manage inpatient wards, and lead regular ward rounds to evaluate cardiovascular symptoms. [1]
- Diagnostics & Procedures: Interpret EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and Holter monitors, and perform or oversee advanced cardiac procedures like catheterizations or pacing. [1, 2, 3]
- Emergency Management: Lead the clinical response for acute cardiac emergencies, including heart attacks, severe arrhythmias, and cardiac arrests. [1, 2]
- Multidisciplinary Leadership: Coordinate comprehensive treatment plans alongside cardiac surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals. [1, 2]
- Education & Governance: Train junior doctors, participate in clinical audits, and contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Primary medical degree ( MBBS / MD / MBChB ) followed by specialized residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology. [1, 2, 3]
- Certification: Valid specialist medical registration, board certification, or equivalent credentials (such as MRCP or a Certificate of Completion of Training / CCT). [1, 2]
- Experience: Proven consultant-level clinical experience managing high-acuity and complex cardiovascular disorders. [1, 2]
- Skills: Expert clinical decision-making, exceptional patient communication, proficiency with advanced medical imaging technology, and strong leadership capabilities. [1, 2, 3]
