TANUH, an AI Centre of Excellence at IISc, is dedicated to creating scalable, AI-driven solutions for non-communicable diseases. Our flagship project, Aarogya Aarohan, is an award-winning mobile-first, offline-ready tool that empowers frontline healthcare workers to detect early-stage oral cancer in real-time. We are looking for a passionate Full Stack Developer to help us scale this platform to a national level, impacting millions of lives across India.

Why This Role Matters: The Indian Context

Oral cancer is not just a medical challenge in India; it is a public health crisis. India accounts for nearly one-third of the global oral cancer burden, with approximately 140,000+ new cases diagnosed annually.

• The Late-Stage Crisis: Due to a lack of awareness and rural healthcare access, nearly 70% of cases in India are detected only at advanced stages (Stage III or IV).
• The Survival Gap: When detected early (Stage I), the 5-year survival rate is as high as 70–80%. In contrast, for late-stage detection, this drops drastically to less than 37%.
• Economic Impact: The cost of treating advanced-stage oral cancer is 42% higher than early-stage treatment, often pushing low-income families into a cycle of debt.

The Role

As a Full Stack Developer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of our healthcare platforms. You will work at the intersection of AI, mobile technology, public health, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring that our screening tools are robust, secure, and user-friendly for healthcare workers in low-resource settings.

Responsibilities

• Application Development: Design and build scalable web and mobile-responsive applications for data collection, patient management, and AI-assisted diagnostics.
• Backend & API Design: Develop and maintain secure RESTful APIs to handle high volumes of medical data, imaging, and habit history.
• Frontend Excellence: Create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for clinicians and frontline ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists), focusing on accessibility and performance.
• AI Integration: Collaborate with AI Researchers to integrate deep learning models (like MobileViTv2) into the application workflow, ensuring seamless real-time analysis.
• Cloud & Deployment: Manage cloud-based storage (AWS/Azure) for de-identified data and contribute to the deployment of tools as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
• Data Integrity & Privacy: Implement best practices for data security (HIPAA/GDPR/PDP/DPDP standards) and offline-first capabilities for remote rural areas.

• Frontend: Proficiency in React.js, Vue.js, or similar frameworks.
• Backend: Proficiency in Typescript and Node.js or other production backend experience.
• Databases: Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Firebase) databases.
• DevOps/Cloud: Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Architecture: Understanding of microservices architecture and secure API design.
• Education: B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Experience in Healthcare Tech (HL7, FHIR standards, or medical imaging).
• Knowledge of MLOps—deploying and monitoring machine learning models in production.
• Previous experience working in a startup-like environment or on open-source projects.
• A passion for Social Impact and building technology for the last mile.
