Job Responsibilities – AGM / DGM – Production

Strategic Production Leadership

• Lead end-to-end manufacturing operations to consistently achieve business objectives related to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Productivity, and People Development.
• Provide strategic direction for production planning, resource utilization, and operational excellence while ensuring uninterrupted plant operations.
• Act as a key member of the site leadership team, supporting the Site Head in achieving organizational and operational goals.

Plant Operations Management

• Oversee the operations of 10 Production Blocks, including Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), engaged in the manufacturing of Pharmaceutical Intermediates, Specialty Chemicals, and Agro Chemicals.
• Ensure smooth execution of batch manufacturing activities while maintaining production schedules and optimum plant utilization.
• Monitor daily production performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Production Planning & Execution

• Develop, review, and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual production plans in alignment with business demand and sales forecasts.
• Ensure timely manufacturing and dispatch of products while optimizing equipment availability and manpower utilization.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain, Stores, Maintenance, QA, QC, and Commercial teams to ensure seamless production operations.

Manufacturing Excellence & Continuous Improvement

• Drive Manufacturing Excellence initiatives through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, and other operational improvement methodologies.
• Lead productivity enhancement programs focused on cycle time reduction, process optimization, and waste elimination.
• Establish operational KPIs and continuously improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), throughput, and operational efficiency.

Yield Optimization & Cost Management

• Drive initiatives to improve process yields, reduce material losses, minimize rework, and optimize raw material consumption.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through process improvements, energy optimization, solvent recovery, and efficient resource utilization.
• Monitor manufacturing costs and ensure operations remain within approved budgets.

Quality & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to cGMP, SOPs, Batch Manufacturing Records (BMR), Quality Management Systems (QMS), and all applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain complete compliance with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and statutory guidelines.
• Drive data integrity, documentation excellence, and implementation of CAPA for quality improvements.

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

• Foster a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all EHS policies, statutory regulations, and company safety standards.
• Ensure safe handling of hazardous chemicals and adherence to process safety management practices.
• Monitor ETP operations to ensure environmental compliance and effective waste management.
• Lead incident investigations, risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and implementation of preventive actions.

Technology Transfer & Commercialization

• Collaborate with R&D, Process Development, and Technology Transfer teams for successful scale-up of new products and commercialization.
• Support process validation, plant trials, engineering batches, and successful technology implementation.
• Ensure smooth transition from laboratory scale to commercial production while maintaining quality and process robustness.

Audit & Inspection Management

• Lead and coordinate internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Ensure timely closure of audit observations through effective CAPA implementation.
• Maintain audit readiness across all production areas and support continuous compliance improvements.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, QA, QC, EHS, SCM, Projects, Procurement, and Commercial teams to ensure efficient plant operations.
• Participate in production review meetings and provide strategic recommendations for operational improvements.
• Resolve interdepartmental issues impacting production schedules and business commitments.

People Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and manage Production Managers, Shift In-charges, Supervisors, and shop-floor personnel across multiple production blocks.
• Build high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and competency development.
• Drive employee engagement, accountability, performance management, and a culture of ownership and operational discipline.
• Ensure effective manpower planning, workforce productivity, and optimum shift deployment.

Training & Performance Management

• Develop and implement structured technical and behavioral training programs for production personnel.
• Ensure regular skill enhancement, SOP compliance, and competency assessments.
• Monitor team performance through defined KPIs and conduct periodic performance reviews.

Operational Governance & Reporting

• Review daily production MIS, operational KPIs, production variances, downtime reports, and improvement action plans.
• Prepare and present production performance reports, capacity utilization, productivity trends, and improvement initiatives to senior management.
• Ensure accurate production documentation and timely reporting of operational metrics.

Candidate Profile

• 18–20 years of progressive experience in the Pharmaceutical, Specialty Chemical, or Agro Chemical industry.
• Minimum 8+ years of proven Plant Leadership experience, managing large-scale manufacturing operations and cross-functional teams.
• Strong expertise in Production Management, Manufacturing Excellence, cGMP Compliance, EHS, Process Optimization, Cost Reduction, Yield Improvement, Technology Transfer, and Regulatory Audits.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large teams, drive operational excellence, and deliver sustainable business results in a multi-product chemical manufacturing environment.
