Electrical BIM engineers

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage 3D BIM models for grid, substation, and electrical infrastructure projects.
• Model electrical components including:
  • Switchgear and transformers
  • Cable trenches and cable layouts
  • Switchyards
  • Grounding/earthing grids
  • Secondary protection and control panels
  • Auxiliary systems
  • Smart grid infrastructure
• Work on DERMS, AMI, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related smart grid infrastructure.
• Extract 2D construction drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), cable schedules, and clearance verification reports from 3D models.
• Develop parametric families and intelligent BIM components with embedded electrical metadata.
• Work across LOD 300 to LOD 500 BIM requirements.
• Support Scan-to-BIM and digital twin creation for brownfield substation retrofits, upgrades, and modernization projects.
• Ensure BIM models and electrical designs meet project requirements, quality standards, and applicable codes.
• Collaborate with engineering, BIM, construction, and project teams to deliver accurate design and documentation.
• Work on US and European projects and follow relevant project standards, including Norsok standards where applicable.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong experience in Electrical Engineering and Substation Design.
• Hands-on experience with BIM modelling for electrical systems.
• Experience in Grid and Substation modelling.
• Strong understanding of electrical equipment, layouts, grounding, cable systems, protection & control, and auxiliary systems.
• Experience with LOD 300–500 BIM deliverables.

  Get Hired
  Exposure to Scan-to-BIM / Digital Twin projects is preferred.
• Experience with US/European projects and international standards.

Preferred Profile

• 12–20 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, BIM, Grid, and Substation projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience working with international clients/projects, particularly in the US and Europe, is preferred.
