Job Description

What role will you play in the team?

As a UK VAT Trainee, you will be integral to our indirect tax team, assisting senior consultants in managing VAT compliance for a diverse portfolio of clients. You will learn to prepare VAT returns, analyze data, and assist in VAT advisory projects, contributing to accurate and timely submissions.

What you will do

You will assist with preparing and submitting UK VAT returns, perform data analysis to identify potential VAT issues, support VAT audits by providing necessary documentation, and stay updated on changes to UK VAT legislation through continuous professional development and training sessions.

Key responsibility

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of accurate and timely UK VAT returns for a portfolio of clients.
  • Perform data analysis and reconciliation to identify potential VAT errors or inconsistencies.
  • Support senior consultants in VAT compliance reviews and audits by gathering and organizing necessary documentation.
  • Stay updated on changes to UK VAT legislation and guidance through continuous professional development.
  • Assist in the resolution of VAT queries from clients and HMRC, under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of VAT-related documents and communications.
  • Contribute to the development of process improvements and best practices within the VAT team.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your knowledge of UK VAT principles and regulations.
  • Support the team in ad-hoc VAT projects and initiatives as required.
  • Adhere to firm policies and procedures, including those related to data privacy and confidentiality.

Required Qualification and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Basic knowledge of UK VAT regulations (desirable but not essential).
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
