We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Controllership to be responsible for providing the business with timely and accurate financial statements and analysis in accordance with the IFRS and Rio Tinto policies. This dynamic team is responsible to deliver optimal controllership support to Product & Non-Product Groups and all Business Units (BU). Working in a collaborative environment the team is responsible for coordinating and ensuring a high quality of all accounting, financial reporting (statutory & group), technical support and compliance services are delivered to all Business Units.


Reporting line: Manager – Closure, Marine and Climate change reporting


Scope: Your scope will include (but not limited to) below:



  • Provide analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results that will serve for external and management reporting

  • Update various contract related accrual or provision models

  • Partner with the Closing & Reporting (C&R), Statutory Reporting and Finance Business Partners (FBPs) and Other Support teams to enhance financial services provided to the BUs

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS standards, Internal controls, SOX standards and Rio Tinto’s accounting policies

  • Review statutory financials and prepare financial summary / analysis for board meetings

  • Support Internal and External Audits

  • Support all transition projects, as may fall in scope

  • Support the controllership function to standardize and optimize its processe/s

  • Manage ad-hoc requests from various stakeholders

  • Ensure all balance sheet components like inventory and sales figures are accurate

  • Support team’s projects or initiatives focused on simplification, standardization and automation

  • Solve accounting / structuring / process complex problems and recommend IFRS compliant solutions

  • Other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by management


About you


To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:



  • Chartered Accountant with post qualification experience of at least 9 years

  • Present experience of IFRS reporting & Diploma in IFRS will be an advantage

  • Experience of matrix set up or multiple geography accounting/consolidation experience would be a plus

  • Knowledge of SAP, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and advanced Excel skills

  • Very good business acumen and ability to interact effectively with colleagues

  • Proactive and the ability to work independently

  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking

  • Strong stakeholder management and team player

  • Ability to lead & grow a team
