- As a Backend Engineer at Swapcard, you will be joining one of our squads dedicated to building and enhancing the core systems that drive Swapcard's capabilities. Your key role will involve designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, scalable solutions for event organizers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Joining any of the squads at Swapcard means contributing to impactful projects that directly shape the future of Swapcard's platform. For example, the Matchmaking Squad focuses on optimizing meeting functionalities and advancing the hosted buyer program to deliver a premium, Grade A experience for participants.
Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, efficient, and robust backend solutions. You will actively participate in coding, system design, code reviews, and troubleshooting production issues. Collaboration with engineers, product managers, and designers to devise optimal engineering solutions will be crucial. Additionally, you will continuously enhance system performance and scalability.
To excel in this role, we are looking for a Backend Developer with 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals such as algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming. Advanced knowledge of backend programming languages such as GO, and the ability to design and deploy high-quality APIs (GraphQL or REST) is essential. Experience with Node.js is a plus.
Proficiency with both relational and non-relational databases such as MariaDB, MongoDB, and Postgres, with a focus on optimization and performance tuning, is required. You should be skilled at maintaining and improving legacy systems, evaluating tradeoffs between refactor, rebuild, or buy decisions.
Outstanding communication skills, proactiveness, adaptability, and self-motivation are necessary for effective collaboration across multiple time zones. Professional experience in designing and building microservices from scratch, along with knowledge of event-driven architectures such as Kafka and RabbitMQ, is preferred.

In addition, extended knowledge of performance-related aspects like scalability, database optimization, performance tuning, optimizing SQL queries, database profiling, query tuning, and schema design improvements are desired. Experience with tools like Prometheus and Grafana is considered a plus.
