The Life Sciences R&D department consists of around 200 engineers developing Electron Microscopy (EM) solutions and applications that help our customers make the world cleaner, healthier, and safer. Our global teams—based in Eindhoven (NL), Brno (CZ), Hyderabad (IN), and Bordeaux (FR)—bring together expertise in hardware, software, and scientific applications. 

Within this environment, we are strengthening our software capabilities for the cryo-EM workflow and are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a focused, high-impact team

About the Role

Our R&D organization brings together engineers and technical experts to develop software and technology for a range of products and applications. We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager / Technical Delivery Lead to lead multiple engineering teams and projects, strengthen our software capabilities, and deliver high-quality solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to shape technical direction, build high-performing teams, and guide the adoption of modern technologies and AI-enabled ways of working. Based in Hyderabad, the role follows a hybrid schedule, with four days per week in the office.

The Role

As a Software Engineering Manager / Technical Delivery Lead, you will lead a group of approximately 5–10 direct reports and have end-to-end ownership of delivery across several projects. You will set technical direction, align project execution with business priorities, and ensure teams deliver reliable, high-quality outcomes.

This is a leadership role focused on people development, engineering quality, and organizational performance. You will coach teams in Agile ways of working, establish clear goals and measures, and guide the evaluation and adoption of AI opportunities. You will work closely with product, R&D, and other cross-functional leaders to plan roadmaps, manage priorities, and continuously improve how teams build and deliver software.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a group of approximately 15–20 direct reports across multiple teams and projects.
• Build a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.
• Support career development, performance management, hiring, onboarding, and continuous learning.
• Coach teams and leaders in Agile principles and effective ways of working.
• Develop technical and leadership capabilities across the organization.

Technical Leadership & Innovation

• Set technical direction across projects, guiding architecture, design, technology choices, and engineering standards.
• Encourage innovation and continuous development of software engineering capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve products, processes, and team effectiveness.
• Assess AI opportunities, shape an AI adoption roadmap, and guide the implementation of approved initiatives.
• Promote responsible, practical use of AI in engineering workflows.
• Guide teams in selecting and applying modern technology stacks, such as cloud platforms, containerization, microservices, APIs, modern web frameworks, and current programming languages and development tools.

Portfolio Ownership & Delivery

• Own planning, execution, quality, and delivery across several projects.
• Work with product and business stakeholders to align roadmaps, priorities, resources, and delivery plans.
• Establish clear KPIs and OKRs, monitor progress, and address risks and dependencies.
• Promote predictable and transparent delivery, with clear communication on outcomes and challenges.
• Balance capacity and priorities across teams to meet business and customer needs.

Engineering Excellence & Quality

• Set expectations for software quality, testing, documentation, security, and maintainability.
• Drive modern software development practices, including the software development lifecycle (SDLC), test automation, CI/CD, and code reviews.
• Improve engineering processes, tooling, and operational practices.
• Promote reliable, scalable, and high-performing software systems.
• Use delivery and quality metrics to guide continuous improvement.

Collaboration & Organizational Impact

• Partner with product management, R&D, quality, operations, and other functions to deliver shared outcomes.
• Communicate technical plans and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Build alignment across teams and contribute to broader engineering and R&D initiatives.
• Share knowledge and promote consistent practices across the organization.

Education and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 12–16 years of experience in software development, including substantial technical leadership and people management experience.
• Experience managing multiple teams or projects, with accountability for end-to-end delivery.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing engineering teams, ideally with 5 or more direct reports.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design principles, and modern engineering practices.
• Required experience in Windows and web application development.
• Experience working with modern technology stacks, including Python, C++, and C#/.NET (including .NET Core), along with relevant development frameworks and tools.
• Familiarity with web application frameworks and technologies, API development, cloud platforms, and containerization.
• Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks, such as unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks, and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on knowledge of the software development lifecycle, regulated development environments, and Quality Management System.
• Experience setting goals and measuring team or project performance through KPIs, OKRs, or similar frameworks.
• Experience evaluating AI opportunities and developing a practical adoption roadmap.
• Strong communication, coaching, decision-making, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively across teams and functions in a changing environment.
• Willingness to work from the Hyderabad office four days per week under a hybrid arrangement.

Nice to Have

• Experience leading engineering teams across multiple products or technology areas.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, DevOps, DevSecOps, and modern web architectures.
• Experience applying AI tools or capabilities in software development or product workflows.
• Experience working in an international or globally distributed organization.
• Background in R&D, scientific software, or other technically complex environments.
