Job Description
Role & responsibilities
GST Compliance & Management
- Oversee end-to-end GST compliance including registrations, monthly/quarterly returns, annual returns, and reconciliation.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, and other applicable returns.
- Manage GST input tax credit (ITC) optimization, matching, and controls.
- Review tax positions for various business transactions including RCM, place of supply, exemptions, valuation, and documentation.
- Implement GST process automation, controls, and SOPs.
Customs Compliance & Operations
- Lead customs procedures including import/export documentation, classification, valuation, duty exemption schemes etc.
- Ensure compliance with Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), Special Economic Zone (SEZ) rules, and DGFT schemes.
- Oversee benefits under schemes such as RoDTEP, EPCG, Advance Authorization, and duty drawback.
- Liaise with customs authorities for assessments, queries, and audits.
Advisory & Strategic Planning
- Provide strategic indirect tax advice on business models, transactions, contracts etc.
- Evaluate tax implications of new products, plant locations, pricing structures, and cross-border movements.
- Interpret amendments in GST and customs laws and proactively guide the organization.

Litigation & Representation
- Lead indirect tax audits, investigations, and assessments by GST, DRI, DGCEI, or customs authorities.
- Manage responses to show-cause notices, appeals, representations, summons and other legal submissions.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel for representation at various forums.
- Build strong governance mechanisms, compliance dashboards, and periodic controls testing
- Conduct internal training for finance, logistics, procurement, and sales teams.7 Identify opportunities for tax savings and cash-flow efficiency.
