The University of Sharjah was established as a non-profit institution for higher education in October 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University. All engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. The Bachelor of Science degree programs in computer science, IT & multimedia, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org/. (applied science branch) All the programs in the college of communication are accredited by ACEJMC (Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication) The College of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
