Urban Company started as UrbanClap in November 2014, when its founders, Abhiraj, Raghav, and Varun, realized that the home services industry was predominantly unorganized, fragmented, and offline. Customers found it challenging to avail quality services conveniently, and service professionals were struggling to make ends meet, having to rely upon several middlemen, contractors, and local aggregators. About the Role & Team

The Accounting & Partner Payouts Platform team builds the financial foundation of Urban Company - the central system of record powering every monetary transaction across the global marketplace. Operating across 15+ business lines and multiple countries, the team engineers high-throughput, fault-tolerant distributed systems where scale, tech complexity, and financial correctness are non-negotiable.

The team owns four core strategic pillars:

• Unified Ledger: Maintaining a single, high-scale system of record that ingests raw transactions from source systems and makes them accounting-ready.
• Automated Accounting & Books Closure: Running tech-driven accounting and automated month-end books closure across 15+ product lines with zero manual intervention from Finance teams.
• Global Tax & Invoicing: Powering dynamic multi-country tax regimes (GST, VAT, TDS) and automated invoice generation for customers and service partners.
• Partner & Vendor Payouts: Building scalable payout engines to ensure 50,000+ service partners and vendors are paid accurately, predictably, and on time.

As a listed company, what this team builds directly shapes reported financials, statutory compliance and partner trust. Every rupee has to be explainable, reconcilable and auditable - making this one of the most correctness-critical charters at Urban Company.

What Youll Do

• Scale Core Platform Infrastructure: Scale the core ledger from 2M+ to 10M+ daily transactions across India, UAE, KSA, and Singapore while maintaining high availability and strict system resilience.
• Engineer Zero-Touch Accounting & Books Closure: Build flexible accounting pipelines and automated closure routines that absorb new business constructs, product lines, and revenue models with zero manual finance overhead.
• Build Partner & Vendor Payout Engines: Architect high-concurrency payout pipelines to seamlessly process earnings, incentives, deductions, and payouts for service partners and external vendors.
• Design Configurable Invoicing & Compliance: Abstract complex multi-country tax regulations and invoicing rules into modular, auditable platform logic.
• Deploy AI-Native Platform Tools: Build LLM-powered finance agents, automated anomaly detection, and self-serve tools to replace manual operational workflows.
• Elevate Technical Standards: Author production-grade code, drive architectural design discussions, and raise the bar for transaction integrity, and system observability.

What Were Looking For

• 2-4 years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong coding skills in any programming language - C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, Go.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB).
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservice architecture.
• Familiarity with message queues/event-driven systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of Frontend development is a plus.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive problems end-to-end.
• High attention to correctness - especially important in financial systems.

Experience in payments, fintech, marketplaces, or high-scale transactional systems is a strong plus.
