Industrial IoT & Automation Lead

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic planning, design, and implementation of our IIoT ecosystem and manufacturing automation solutions.
• Architect, implement, and manage the Unified Namespace (UNS) strategy, ensuring standardized, contextualized, and real-time data availability from all operational technology (OT) sources.
• Ensure reliable data acquisition from manufacturing assets (machines, sensors, PLCs) using industrial protocols (OPC UA, Modbus TCP, MQTT) and its ingestion into the UNS.
• Collaborate with SAP Lead on seamless integration with MES (SAP DMC) and SAP S/4HANA, leveraging data from the UNS for production execution and feedback.
• Design and manage edge computing deployments in the factory for local data processing and real-time control, often as a key component of the UNS architecture.
• Partner with OEMs and automation vendors to vet and influence solution architectures for the shop floor.
• Identify and implement use cases for IIoT data (e.g., OEE, predictive maintenance, quality control), consuming data from the UNS.
• Oversee the secure integration of OT systems within the broader network, ensuring UNS data integrity and security.
• Champion and foster a data-driven culture on the shop floor through effective UNS utilization and continuous stakeholder engagement.

Key Skills

• Strong understanding of manufacturing OT (PLCs, SCADA, DCS), industrial protocols, and IIoT platforms (Azure IoT Hub/Central).
• Expertise in Unified Namespace (UNS) concepts, architectures (e.g., ISA-95), and enabling technologies (e.g., MQTT brokers, Ignition/Kepware, data historians).
• Ability to design and integrate complex IIoT/automation solutions in a greenfield.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and ability to bridge IT/OT gaps.
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and shop floor operations.

Qualification:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in Industrial Automation, Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical), Computer Science, or related field.

Mandatory Skills/ Certification:

• Relevant IIoT Platform Certification (e.g., Azure IoT Developer Specialty) OR Industrial Automation/Control Systems Certification.
• Industry 4.0 / Smart Manufacturing Certification, Certification related to MQTT/Ignition/UNS technologies.

Required Experience:

• 8-12 years in manufacturing automation, industrial controls, or IIoT solutions.
• 4-5 years focused on IIoT platform implementation, data acquisition from factory machines, and OT/IT integration and/or Unified Namespace architecture/implementation.
• Proven experience in a greenfield factory setup or significant modernization project.
• Experience leading projects and managing vendors in the automation space.
