Job Description
Legal Recovery & Resolution:
- Handle high-value default and stressed accounts across Commercial Banking portfolios (Working Capital, MSME - Mid Corporate, Fund based and non-fund-based facility, Bank Guarantee facility, Real Estate funding, NBFC Loans - Collateral and Non Collateral Base).
- Drive time-bound resolution and recovery through effective legal actions including SARFAESI, DRT, NCLT (IBC), Arbitration, and negotiated settlements.
- Initiate and manage criminal proceedings under applicable laws relating to fraud, cheating, diversion/siphoning of funds, including cases under NI Act (Section 138).
- Lead OTS, compromise settlements, enforcement actions, and asset recovery initiatives in line with Bank's recovery strategy.
- Ensure robust case preparation, documentation, and follow-through across all legal forums.
- Handling and implementing RBI policy on Wilful default and Fraud risk management.
- Handle civil and criminal cases against the bank and CB employees, arising as a counter blast to recovery proceedings.
B. Litigation & External Coordination:
- Manage panel advocates, law firms, recovery agents, resolution professionals, and external legal consultants.
- Maintain strong working relationships with legal fraternity, senior counsels, tribunals, courts, and arbitration forums.
- Liaise with police authorities, district administration, and enforcement agencies for effective execution of criminal and recovery actions.
- Monitor legal costs, case progress, outcomes, and success ratios.
C. Strategy, Governance & Digitisation:
- Drive digitisation and automation of legal recovery processes including legal case tracking, documentation management, dashboards, and MIS.
- Design, implement, and strengthen legal recovery SOPs, governance mechanisms, and compliance controls.
- Review portfolio trends, ageing, and risk indicators to enable proactive legal interventions.
- Provide periodic MIS and leadership updates on recovery performance and litigation status.
D. Stakeholder & People Management:
- Partner with Business, Credit, Risk, Collections, Compliance, and Audit teams to enable faster and more effective recoveries.
- Lead, mentor, and develop legal recovery teams, ensuring high standards of professionalism, ethics, and performance.
- Support capability building on legal recovery frameworks and regulatory best practices within the Bank.

- Proven ability to resolve large and complex default accounts.
- Experience in legal process digitisation and MIS transformation.
- High negotiation, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of banking products, credit appraisal, and commercial lending structures.
- Ability to work effectively with legal fraternity, law-enforcement agencies, senior leadership, and regulators.
Eligibility:
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in Banking, with extensive exposure to legal recovery, stressed assets, and commercial banking portfolios.
- Prior leadership experience in Legal Recovery / Stressed Assets / Credit Resolution within Banking Services.
Qualification:
- LLB from a reputed university / law college.
- Additional exposure to IBC, insolvency resolution, or forensic/legal certifications will be an added advantage.
