Head Paint Shop

Role Purpose

The Paint Shop Head is responsible for managing and optimizing all painting and surface finishing operations within the foundry. This includes ensuring required coating quality, process consistency, cost efficiency, team performance, equipment upkeep, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and delivery alignment with production schedules.

Role & responsibilities

A. Operational Management

• Plan, schedule, and execute daily paint shop activities in alignment with production plans.
• Manage and monitor pre-treatment, coating, curing, and finishing processes.
• Ensure compliance with customer-specific paint specifications, standards, and documentation.
• Oversee mixing, storage, and usage of paints, thinners, and chemicals.

B. Quality Assurance

• Ensure surface preparation quality (shot blasting, fettling, cleaning) meets standards.
• Monitor and control coating parameters (DFT, adhesion, curing, hardness, gloss).
• Conduct periodic inspections, audits, and testing to maintain defect-free output.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to reduce paint defects (e.g., runs, sags, peeling, pinholes).

C. Process Improvement & Cost Control

• Optimize consumption of paint, thinner, consumables, and energy.
• Implement lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen initiatives in the paint shop.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce rejection and rework.
• Develop and standardize SOPs and work instructions for the paint shop.

D. People Management

• Lead, train, and motivate paint shop operators, technicians, and supervisors.
• Conduct skill matrix assessment and capability development programs.
• Ensure adherence to work discipline, attendance, and performance standards.

E. Equipment & Maintenance

• Oversee maintenance of spray booths, ovens, conveyors, pumps, mixers, and paint guns.
• Ensure proper functioning of ventilation, filtration, and safety systems.
• Coordinate with maintenance for preventive and breakdown maintenance.

F. Safety, Compliance & Documentation

• Enforce strict safety protocols related to VOCs, flammable materials, PPE, and ventilation.
• Maintain documentation for audits (ISO, IATF, environmental compliance).
