Job Description

As a Senior Manager in Buying & Merchandising focusing on the Books Category at Crossword Bookstores, your primary responsibility will be to develop and execute the buying and merchandising strategy for the books category across all Crossword stores and online platforms. Your role will be pivotal in shaping the product assortment, building vendor relationships, and enhancing the commercial performance of the category.

Your key responsibilities will include developing and implementing the buying strategy aligned with the company's objectives, curating an assortment mix based on market trends and customer preferences, onboarding publishers and authors to ensure a competitive range of products, negotiating commercial terms with vendors to maximize profitability, managing category budgets and inventory levels, monitoring sales performance, collaborating with the Marketing team on promotions and campaigns, staying updated on industry trends, and mentoring junior team members.
To excel in this role, you should hold a Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field (an MBA is preferred) with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in buying, merchandising, or category management within the books or publishing industry. You must possess strong negotiation and vendor management skills, an excellent understanding of the books market, proficiency in sales data analysis, and a passion for books and reading culture.
